Clarke gets criticised for not bringing in enough new faces; then gets criticised for bringing in a new face.

T. Fletcher is a deep-lying midfielder, like Gilmour, and he already looks like a better player.

That’s some conclusion to come to given the lad has barely played any first team football.

Maybe it’s just a more like for like replacement. Fletcher manoeuvres the ball well like Gilmour and keeps possession, that was pretty clear. I think Miller is a bit more into the raking 40 yard pass and getting forward.

I think Miller can do practically everything Gilmour can and more and will end up a better player. I know that's just my opinion. I can't imagine Clarke will ever pick him again now. Surely I'm not the only one who was surprised to see five forwards in the squad?

What on earth going on with Lennon Miller then, must surely becoming out in the wash soon

I think it would be better if it did now to be honest. It's already so obviously something other than actual performances.

Fletcher might be a future star but he's made two appearances for Man Utd and how many minutes has he actually played? It's utter insanity to put him in a world cup squad on the basis of one decent performance against 10 men in a friendly.

Amazing decision.

I was very impressed with him, but it's quite a rise to say the least. Miller more deserving probably, but Fletcher has obviously made a huge impression during this training camp. Kenny McLean also spoke extremely highly of him which may give a hint of how influential some of the senior players are on Clarke.

Take Tyler, then Jack sees and wants a piece of the action?

If you’re suggesting he could be using this as a recruitment tactic then it’s a terribly sad state of affairs

Irrelevant comment at this stage.

If that’s the case then and it’s being used as a recruitment tactic then that’s a very serious issue and one that needs addressing

I said "looks like a better player" which is an observation - not a conclusion.

We were all very excited by the teenage Gilmour but he has not become the fulcrum of the Scotland midfield that many expected.

Not many players do live up to the early promise they initially show

Had a few minutes of fitba for his club then 45 against 10-man sh*te and he looks better than Billy Gilmour? Fck me sideways.

Never change, TAMB. Never change. 😂

Not sure Miller is/will be better than Gilmour but it's pretty depressing to think he won't be involved until about 2030.

Apparently Fletcher has played 17 minutes of club football.

He must have trained like a prime Pirlo in the last few days.

I know. People are far too reactionary on here to carry out any level of critical thinking

Saying we’ll be better of with a teenager with 2 senior appearances at club level and 45 minutes against a team ranked 83 in the world rather than with a guy who’s played over 100 games in the English Premiership and Serie A with a Scudetto and champions league winners medal to boot is certainly a take

Gilmour possibly hasn’t lived up to the media hype once shown when he was 17/18/19 but very very few players ever do replicate that form as they get older but that certainly doesn’t mean they aren’t excellent players

It really is like one flew over the cuckoos nest on here at times

Here is my thoughts. First of all, we are all entitled to our opinion, and verbal abuse should be left alone....

For years Clark has picked players in merit, we all know that, and I personally don't support this, if a player is playing well, and is ready, then play him...

Everyone wants Millar, agreed, great wee player, but I like the fact that finally, Clarke grew a set of stones, and went with Fletcher !!

He is in my eyes, thinking of the squad, and not what everyone else around him is saying, or thinking...

Hopefully other youngsters will get a crack now !!!

If your good enough, your old enough...

Just my opinion troops....

He's 100% not picking him to tie him down. Fans need to stop thinking this before it becomes an endless debate within the Tartan Army.

Tyler had already said when he was called up to the under 21's early In April that he's totally committed to Scotland and dreams of getting as many caps as his dad.

I'm one of Clarke's biggest critics, but on this occasion I will back his decision. He must feel Fletcher is a more like-for-like replacement than Miller, as well as being impressed how he's trained with the squad.

My take would be that Fletcher is a more like-for-like replacement for Gilmour at the base of midfield.

If Ferguson, McTominay, McGinn or Christie were injured it might’ve been Miller that was brought in.

Fletcher also looks like he has the physical stature which Miller (who is working on it) and even Gimour lack.

No one watching that game yesterday would argue that it would only be a matter of time before Fletcher was part of the squad anyway. Maybe Clarke has seen something potentially special while he has trained with the squad.

Can I just say that it’s great having this debate. Just wish we could have a similar debate about goalkeepers or forwards.

I’m not sure why the focus is solely on Miller, Barron is closer in style to Gilmour and must consider himself unlucky not to get picked. Irving, I believe, is more of an attacking  midfielder but I’ve barely seen him play.
Maybe in Fletcher we’ve got a bit of a prodigy on our hands and should be excited. I’m still absolutely gutted for wee Billy though.

Nobody has suggested that Tyler has been selected to “tie him down” Not on this quote chain at least

Someone has alluded to Clarke selecting Tyler Fletcher to perhaps turn Jack Fletchers head into committing to Scotland

I have merely suggested that if that is the case then he would be using the squad selection as a recruitment drive and IMHO would be completely unacceptable

I think the biggest Absentee here is your ability to read a thread properly

I think in Barron you’ve a got a tenacious work horse in midfield who is a decent footballer, no more. With Miller you’ve got a technically very good footballer who maybe lacks physicality and running power in midfield.

Fletcher might be seen as a better all-rounder with a very high ceiling.

Agree completely. 100%

Unfortunately on here though some bitch cunts get so butt hurt when one offers a different angle to the debate they take it as a personal attack

Seems reasonable.

I think you’re getting a bit over excited here.

It clearly didn't matter what McBurnie ever did at club level as he was never going to get picked. I see similarities. I wonder what happened as it was really surprising to see him not play at all v Japan or Ivory Coast.

It was maybe just a clash of personalities which would tell its own story if true. Every other manager and player who has worked closely with Miller can’t speak highly enough of him
