I appreciate that 5 minutes on Google and it could be my specialist subject on Mastermind but am I the only person who knows nothing about Curacao?

I couldn't locate it on a map, don't know how large it is, what the population is. I know nothing of it's history, what the capital is, what the flag looks like, who the Prime Minister/President is...I know nothing.

I know it's in the Caribbean sea, it's Dutch owned (if that's the right term) and that's about it.  Given it's Dutch connection I'd also assume you'd be able to fly there from Amsterdam with KLM!

I had seen that word before that is it.

I would have got the rough geographic area but after that would have struggled.

My auld boy has been there on a cruise, part of the ABC islands apparently

Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao from memory.  All part of the Dutch Caribbean. (I've learned something working in travel for 30+ years!)

In the same way as Scotland is owned by the UK or the Faroes is owned by the Kingdom of Denmark.

Curaçao is a constituent nation in the Kingdom of the Netherlands (as is...err...the Netherlands).

I don't know if the Kingdom of the Netherlands or the Kingdom of Denmark come under pressure form FIFA to compete as a single realm in the way the UK occasionally does, or whether it's 'out of sight, out of mind' given the relatively small stature of the other nations within those realms compared to the UK.

I thought I had never heard of Curacao until they qualified for the WC. I knew about the liqueur, that some folk like to drink when they are on holiday, but I hadn't thought about it being named after a place. Then when I googled it I realised that it was part of the Dutch Antilles, which I had read a fair bit about many moons ago. So, I probably had seen the name Curacao but it hadn't registered as, to me, it was just part of the Dutch Antilles. Dutch Antilles was quite a strategic place in the oil business. Possibly still is unless Trump has shut it down?

Ah, that may be where I've seen the name before. I don't think I've ever had it, and like you won't have made any connection to it's place of origin.

I originally heard of it via Blue Curaçao. Cue headlines if someone has a bad game, Curaçao blues, etc.

Also in a lyric by the Dream Warriors, among a list of islands...

I lived for 5 years in the Netherlands so I learnt a little about it while there. Thankfully they had added some of their flavour to Dutch food which consisted of mashed potatoes and pretty much nothing else without the Curacao and Indonesia influence.

Pretty popular tourist destination for the Dutch.

Brought a very good support and had a good connection with their team.

I was surprised to see they brought so many fans. I'm not sure how many were from the UK. I guess if you were of Curaçaon descent and living in Holland you might have come across.

An hour and a baw hair flight from Amsterdam. I’d bet good money that next to nobody travelled over from Curacao

I suspect you're right. Easier for them than travelling to a home game.

It’s a wonder why we don’t face more African countries in friendlies and cash in on the African expats in the UK

It’s not as if they’re having to fly them over from Africa apart from a few dignitaries as most of their squads will be European based
