We’ve made numerous similar signings to Godfrey and Neil in recent years and more often than not they end in disappointment. The squad is bloated as it stands, especially in midfield where we have about 8 similar players and barely any creativity. As much as I’d be keen on Ferguson coming on, I don’t think he changes that. I'm kind of with you as a summary, especially the lack of creativity and the wide players (Antman, Gassama) can't be relied upon I imagine Raskin will be away. What most of the new players give though is leadership and commitment. I'm reserving my thoughts on Godfrey as I'm far from convinced that he's what we need. Quote

Surely you’re looking and thinking that maybe these are types of signings you should he’s been making for years An experienced manager in the premier league who’s proven he can get the best out of what personnel he’s had at his disposal and competed when he comes face to face with the old firm Lawrence Shankland is a proven goalscorer at this levels. Granted he’s not got a long future ahead of him but given the opportunity he’ll have a good couple of seasons McCrorie knows the league well and Devlin does the job of being an annoying little cunt that gets stuck in and does the dirty stuff well. Probably what Rangers have been lacking recently You can’t be looking at that and then thinking you don’t have some sort of advantage over Celtic with their poor player pool and lack transfer business Quote

If that's true then it looks as if our European-qualifying clubs are collectively weaker than at the end of last season? Quote

Would have loved him to have stayed in Scotland, cracking player who disproves the myth about needing a physical presence. Quote

Yes it would have been great to see a full strength Motherwell and a full strength Hearts side have a good go of it in Europe (same for the other Scottish sides too, but those two seem particularly depleted from the sides that got them there last year) Edited July 20 by exile Quote
Hertsscot Posted July 25 Posted July 25 Kieran Ngwenya is apparently still without a club after leaving Dunfermline. I thought he looked pretty good last season and an surprised that a bigger club hasn't snapped him up by now. Quote
Fairbairn Posted July 29 Author Posted July 29 Latest news from Ibrox is that we somehow look set to make a profit, albeit a small one, on Antman. Had a cracking debut and then just vanished so won't be sad to see him leave. Also looks like Souttar on his way out (rumours of a few things off the pitch being the reason for his departure) with Leicester and Swansea in for him. From a Scotland POV I'd rather see him play in the Championship than with Leicester in L1 (and managed by Russell Martin!!). On incomings we're close to signing a South African CH from Philly Union and linked with a Dutch winger from Coventry who signed for them in January and played 30 minutes.... Quote

We still seem overloaded with central midfielders and lacking in creativity. I do hope that the board/McInnes have got some targets lined up. Quote

At the moment we've got Raskin, Barron, Diomande, Chukwuani, Cifuentes, Devlin, Neil, Dragojevic, Cameron, Bajrami and Aasgaard who can all play centrally, albeit the last 3 probably a bit further forward. I think there's an expectation/hope that Aasgaard will step up this season and provide the creativity but we badly need more quality in there and could probably lose about half a dozen of those names above with no real impact to the squad. I think a lot of it hinges on getting Raskin out and a decent amount of money to reinvest. Quote

We even enquired about him and that finished when they told us his valuation! 😀 Quote

I was hoping for someone a bit more attacking but from what I've read he's another defensive mid? Quote
Hertsscot Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Chris Cadden to Aberdeen this morning. Bit surprised as he came in for Hibs in the second half last night. Maybe not quite the player he was a couple of years back but a good solid acquisition by the Dons Quote

Delighted to get him off the wage bill, hopefully the Dons fancy Joe Newell anaw Quote
Hertsscot Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Kieran Ngwenya and Ewan Etoo sign for the mighty Rotherham in League 2. Dunfermline fans must be gutted that they lost those two and JCM to Wigan for the combined sum of absolutely nothing. I watched a bit of League 1 on TV last season and all three looked pretty decent, if not the finished article. I'm surprised that no Premiership teams took a punt on them (not Australian enough for Jim Goodwin?). Although maybe the wages down south, even in the bottom division, were more than they could get up here. Quote
Hertsscot Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Kyziridis away. I'm assuming that Hearts will have made a profit. Started off well but seems to have gone off the boil more recently? Quote
