Thought this was worth starting a new thread as we hurtle towards our clubs making shiny new signings who will ultimately disappoint us!!

Kicking things off, Rangers have signed Lawrence Shankland on what seems to a be free contract from Hearts.  For once a quite shrewd bit of business by Rangers.  Also linked with James Penrice at AEK Athens and Luke Graham at Dundee and good to see us finally look at some decent Scottish talent.

Shankland is a quality signing - one we should have made years ago. Defensively we need a rebuild. I still can't believe last summer's recruitment bringing in so many loan players at the back and knowing that it was probably going to be Tavernier's last season.

I wonder if it was going to be Tavernier's last season before Rohl came in?  Either way, with his age and Sterling being made of Lego, longer term solutions should definitely have been looked at.

They’ve signed Shankland for nothing & will receive a reported player involvement fee of £11000 a day from FIFA while Scotland are involved the World Cup 🤪

David Watson leaving Killie for Bolton.

I thought I'd heard there was a team from Italy or similar sniffing about Watson?  Thought he seemed set for bigger things than Bolton.

If you are signing either as starters then you certainly won't be needing your passport!

Is it fair to say that both have performed well in the past but last season was a drop off in form for both of them?

Injury prone, average journeymen or just shite ?

I thought Mayo was quite good when he was at Thistle, although he was obviously playing in the Championship at that point. I felt we'd be lucky to sign him permanently as he seemed destined for the Premiership, and he was.

I also regarded Lewis Neilson quite highly but he's another who's fallen off the radar.

Not much chat on Robbo leaving Liverpool?

Think he's more or less signed for Spurs, although Juventus apparently interested too.

Juve would be interesting.

Fits perfectly with their experienced pro on a free transfer but high wage earner signing policy

Lyons legs IMO have gone, although i've never really been a huge fan of him. Always saw him a squad player and god knows why he was made captain.

Mayo has fallen off a cliff the last 18 months.

He looked great for us to start then went downhill.

Never a full back.

I agree - is that where he played for you??  He's a decent CB though.

DM likes massive full backs, he played Mayo there a lot.

Mayo couldn't really get a game for us last season at CB.

Hmm, cheers, strange, we have decent full backs in Devlin, Lobban & Frame, Knoesters is decent but has had two bad injuries, in Robinson we trust ? 🤔🤦‍♂️

Hearts getting a lot of business done early.

They always do, identify your target and pay what’s required to get them early. Full pre season and bedded in from the get go, unfortunately the Hibernians usually leave it late when the advantage is with the player/selling club and it’s October till they’re up to speed. Annoys the fuck out of me, European games are the last week in July. The club make a big thing about qualifying yet always go in underprepared, making group stage European competition is a massive revenue stream for non old firm teams
