England World Cup thread (no hate please!)

I agree.  Chalk and cheese, Scotland and England, at this world cup.  One looking to get to the knock outs somehow, the other looking to win all the knock outs and bag the trophy.

But England have a weakness.  I don't rate their manager so much.  And they have no team unity.  They have 23 high calibre players who all know they are fighting for a place and will probably be dropped for a capable teammate if they make a serious mistake or have a duff game.  I think Harry Maguire is shocked he had no credit in the Tuchel bank.

How much does team unity count for?   I don't know.  Might be worth a thread to discuss England.  Not to hate them.  They are on a different flightpath at this world cup and some players are teammates to our Scots lads.

Yes, this is a Scotland forum but many of our players have past/current teammates in the English team.  Put vaguely, we both play similar ("non-continental") styles of football. Both teams have to adapt to the US playing conditions from UK climate.

We might learn something from England's preparation and journey that can help us with ours.  Let's not hate them here, I don't want that (we all have an English in-law/relative somewhere).  Let's note observations on England's tournament and build up and see if it can help us.

I would prefer this thread - and the Harvey Barnes one 🤢 - to be in Non TA football, as it's not TA specific.

We get enough media pushing content of other countries at us, it's all over TV, radio, internet, including social media adverts for the big broadcasters featuring 'big nation' teams and their clubs, we just can't escape, and it seems even coverage of our own games on TV is likely to be mixed up with coverage of other countries.

TA specific is surely a haven for just Scotland-specific stuff?

My kids were born in England, they have cousins born in England, some of my close mates are English and I hope they get fuckin humped in every game they play. 

 

Why the hell would any self respecting Scotland fan want to observe a team we are unlikely to play? The only reason to observe them is to hope they get humiliated

And what does our players being team mates of there's have to do with anything?

Sorry to bring up ethnicity again, as I do have a connection, though I doubt I'll be back here to discuss their team:   I have one ancestor who's name was Jane English, also spelled Inglis on one document after they moved here ...from Ireland!   (Mibbee I'm Tom English's 4th cousin or something.)

Actually, on a quick headcount, one of my many cousins married an English lass.   She's great!  Not sure she has good taste though😄

I reckon England will easily progress to the QF and possibly could get to the semi's. . . . . . can't see anyone else winning outside of Argentina / France / Spain (also think Japan could be wort keeping an eye on)

I think Portugal have one of, if not the, best midfields in the tournament and if Ronaldo brings his shooting boots could do well.

FFS , had to switch TV off again. SSN is my default background TV channel but all I've been hearing repeatedly from them is "ending 60 years of hurt" again and again and again. 60 years, blah, blah, blah !!!

They'll easily get out of their group anyway, that's for sure: Croatia are good but most of their better players are aging; Ghana have a decent side on paper but they haven't won in six games (they sacked the manager who got them qualified and replaced him with Carlos Queiroz, who still hasn't won them a game); and Panama are skelp-fodder.
