Iain69 Posted May 3 Posted May 3 what were you doing last time we qualified and how old will you be if it's another 28 years? 28 years ago, I remember giving chemo and ducking out to watch the Brazil game between patients. Genuinely thought we'd qualify after the Norway game and watched the Morocco game with my head in my hands surrounded by my english mates taking the piss. In 28 years I'll be 86 ... fuck Quote
Ally Bongo Posted May 3 Posted May 3 I was there and approaching 30 Spent the day before on the Champ de Mars inventing the first fan zone At night went up the Pigalle to the Cockney Tavern Quote
AlfieMoon Posted May 3 Posted May 3 (edited) I was in 4th year at school. Got to stay off school for the day even though the game didn’t kick off til 4pm from memory. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one and the school would’ve been pretty empty. I remember it being a sunny day and the streets absolutely deserted. The build up to the tournament had been sensational. I remember the brilliant Nike/Brazil adverts, the hype about Ronaldo, his Mercurial boots. McCoist & McAuley the night before the game on tv. Edited May 3 by AlfieMoon Quote
JayTee Posted May 3 Posted May 3 My daughter was born 2 weeks before the Brazil game. Back then the view was “I’ll just go to the next one”. Youngsters will not understand this. Anyway she’s turning 28 later this month 🤦♂️ Quote

Life was simple back then Missed my daughters first birthday for the Brazil game in 98 28 years later I’m taking her to Boston to apologise. Quote
Maradonnagoldenhand Posted Monday at 10:55 AM Posted Monday at 10:55 AM Went over as a young 22 year old and stayed in Fontainebleau not far outside Paris for a few days before and after Brazil game. Quote
McTeeko Posted Monday at 04:26 PM Posted Monday at 04:26 PM 22 in 1998. I’m 50 now. If it takes us another 28 years to qualify I’ll either be 78 or deid. So spending plenty to experience it once again. Laddie is 14 now - when I was 14 Italia’90 stuck in my heid as I was at that age and impressionable (despite it no being a great WC). Absolutely cannae wait now! ✊🏼🏴 Quote
GLOSTA Posted Monday at 06:58 PM Posted Monday at 06:58 PM Circumstances meant I couldnt go to France. Anyway.... I was working in Coventry and drove home to Gloucester so I didnt have to watch any games with the possibility of getting pelters. In 28 years... I will be 92! Quote
BOMBER Posted Monday at 07:27 PM Posted Monday at 07:27 PM I was there with my Father and 28 years on ill be there again this time with my son. Quote
PSJ84 Posted Tuesday at 05:58 AM Posted Tuesday at 05:58 AM Was probably still a nightmare in my dad’s mind 28 years ago. Mind you, I’ll be 55 by the time the 2054 edition comes around, so I might’ve been an aspiration rather than a nightmare by that point. Quote
NE TA in the weeg Posted Tuesday at 10:12 AM Posted Tuesday at 10:12 AM I was too young to go to France 98. I don't even remember us qualifying - Scotland qualifier games weren't on domestic tv, and we were living down in the England at the time, so we would have been relying on updates from Radio 5 Live (our telly didn't even have Ceefax to get the scores that way). I remember one game listening to the radio in the car after my dad had driven us to the top of a nearby hill to try to pick up Radio Scotland, but I couldn't tell you who we played or what the score was. For the tournament itself, I mostly remember rushing home from school to watch the Brasil and Norway games, and being excited and optimistic for Morocco, only for the utter devestation at the result... Wayverider Posted Tuesday at 04:02 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:02 PM Back in ‘98 I was 36 years old and had gotten the afternoon off work (in Canada) to watch the 3rd game vs Morocco. That same morning I had found a cheap flight from Toronto to Paris for $199 return - I was set to fly over and see Scotland in the knock out stage, only to be overcome with disappointment as the game unfolded. As it turned out I flew to Paris anyway and saw Italy-France in a shootout quarterfinal match. I had an arrogant sense back then that Scotland could make every World Cup and missing ‘94 had been a one off. Little did I know. I’m stoked all over again and have my tickets for Boston and Miami - the arrogant sense of “And we’ll really shake them up when we win the World Cup” is a welcomed sickness that has returned all over again! SeaCowe Posted Tuesday at 05:47 PM Posted Tuesday at 05:47 PM Was watching the Brazil match with my mum, dad and sister as a 12 year old in our lounge. Never thought it would be 28 years until the next one. That Denmark game was one of the best feelings I’ve ever had as a Scotland fan, what a moment! Here’s to 2026 🤝 Quote
Malcolm Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago 25 years old, starting my professional life and studying for my MBA. Had just bought my second house and felt like the world was my oyster and anything was possible. flew over full of confidence as always for Scotland back then. Quote
