Johnnyshaker Posted May 18 Posted May 18 @Caledonian Craig You're probably spot on there for 26. If Hanley's out, I'd take McCrorie personally but he'll likely want someone experienced hence Porteous. Quote

And I'd be happy with that except maybe Burke for Curtis- pity we can't have both, though Hirst could be replaced by Burke who I once had written off. Quote
DesiScotsman Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Yeah I’ll be quite shocked if that isn’t the squad there that @Caledonian Craig has posted. Unless Hanley’s injury isn’t as bad as feared which if that is the case, he will take the place of Porteous. Quote

He might take Kelly over Bain for the dressing room banter😆 Though I would have thought Clarke also wants guarantees from Gordon that he's fit enough to play in one of the friendlies. I've a feeling he'll give Hanley every chance to make it and if he doesn't, he might take Ralston over Porteous or Ralston over even Patterson 😥 Hope he takes Curtis and Bowie, but again I wouldn't be surprised if one is sacrificed for another defender. Personally, I'd like Ross Stewart selected and, to a lesser extent, Burke & McBurnie but it won't happen and that's why I cannot bring myself to be excited about this squad announcement. Quote

Kev10038 Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Maybe already posted but Haiti have announced their WC squad with 9 forwards Quote

csinclair Posted May 18 Posted May 18 If Hanley is injured, I imagine he might still go along as part of the back room team like Dykes did at the Euros since he’s one of the senior members of the squad Quote

There might be places for Bowie and Curtis as youngsters who won't get restless if they don't get minutes, but I can't see him taking an established goalscorer like Stewart or McBurnie as Clarke doesn't seem to like too much competition for places, he prefers squad harmony over quality. He wouldn't want his favourite son, Dykes feeling almost surplus to requirements. Quote

Caledonian Craig Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Just as a bit of alternative fun this is the squad I would select:- Gunn Gordon Slicker Hickey O'Donnell Robertson Tierney McKenna Hendry Findlay Hyam Kingsley McGinn McTominay Christie McLean Ferguson Gannon-Doak Gilmour Curtis Burke Dykes Adams Bowie Shankland McBurnie Quote
Squirrelhumper Posted May 19 Posted May 19 (edited) Curtis and Stewart will be the two curveball additions IMO. Curtis nailed on IMO and Stewart be the surprise addition. Edited May 19 by Squirrelhumper Quote

Diamond Scot Posted May 19 Posted May 19 A million defenders. Why would you take Ralston and leave out Lennon Miller. We already have Hickey and Patterson at RB plus Tierney and Hendry who would both be better playing there than Ralston. Even putting aside balance of the team, Millers ceiling is so much higher than Ralston. Even if none of them play, the experience is better given to Miller who is a regular in Italy as opposed to Ralston who is 3rd choice at best for Celtic. Personally id have also taken Bowie over Hirst but that was never going to happen. Quote
DesiScotsman Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Fair play, I was not anticipating Ross Stewart being in the squad but delighted he is Quote

Curtis nailed on IMO and Stewart be the surprise addition. You called it right. Despite the frequernt criticism of Clarke for not playing enough youth, he's not been afraid to call up youngsters for his tournament squads: Gilmour and Paterson in 2021, and Ben Gannon-Doak almost certainly would have been in for 2024 were it not for injury. Quote
runningtings Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Happy with Curtis and Stewart in, sorry for Miller but he's never getting game time ahead of the other midfielders in reality. Quote
MacGuff Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Taking Ralston implies that he has doubts about Hickey’s fitness Quote
