The attacking options are too same same and won’t change anything off the bench but fully expect they’ll all be there.  I’d rather have usual 3 of Adams, Dykes (out of loyalty) and Shankland then a couple of wildcards from Stewart, Curtis, Bowie and Burke but won’t happen 

Loyalty isn't enough reason to pick someone. Anyway, how on earth can you become loyal if your never selected!

Where do we stand on our 'up-to 55 man squad' not at least so far released publicly? 

I am not surprise but are we hiding something, is it incompetence again or a nothing burger?

There are 48 teams who had to do the same and the only ones to make it out into the public has been Bosnia and Argentina.

I see Sweden haven't indulged in any speculation about 55 players. They've cut to the chase and just announced their 26 man squad.

They will still have named a 55-man squad as stated in the rules by FIFA. And from that pool of 55 and only that pool can they make any late call-ups due to injuries in the 26-man squad.

Yes, it was more the public announcement of the 26 that I was commenting on. Unlike England where at least some of the names of the 55 have been leaked.

As much as we'd like to know who's in the 55, I can't see any reason for names being made public.

Interesting, I thought it was previously scheduled for 30th May. That means it will be before the play-off final and McBurnie and Stewart's last chance to stake a claim. Perhaps intentional if neither are in.

Also before the final round of fixtures in most leagues. Not sure it makes a lot of sense to tell people they have missed the cut then have to pull them back in. I don't see why he can't wait 7 days. 90% of the squad know they are going.

He needs to name a squad for the two friendlies. Its the final squad that needs to be named on the 30th.

I'd imagine there will be 2 or so on a reserve list that may well be with the squad for the two games. He named a 28 man provisional squad for the Euros, then ditched them.

Yeah that’s what I’m expecting on Tuesday. A squad of 28 and then cut two players from that after the Curaçao game before they fly to America.

There’s no requirement that there needs to be a 55 provisional squad submitted to FIFA. 55 is just the maximum number of players that can be named in the preliminary squad. It’s a minimum of 35 players (probably something Clarke will go for) but you must have 4 goalies in the squad no matter how many players you select between 35-55 in your preliminary squad. Teams will then have to trim it down 26 when they officially announce the squad that will be participating in the World Cup.

Aye, it couldn't have done much harm to wait an extra week, especially as most of the squad likely know if they're in or out. It's not impossible that one of them scores a couple and is outstanding but haven't been picked. Then it's a very obvious stick to beat Clarke with in his next press conference.

Agree. He's now got an issue with Hanley's fitness. Does he name a bigger squad or have a reserve list? What if players get knocks in the final 2 EPL games or Cup final? Madness not to wait a week. It would allow him to assess who has a knock and a better matched reserve list.

The reserve list is the 29 of the 55 who do not make the final squad. Nobody else can be selected beyond the 55. Those are the rules as stipulated by FIFA.

Yeah, I get that but I assume Clarke will tell half a dozen they are next in line and to keep training. If he has named 55 he'll be honest with numbers 40-55 that they have now chance.

Yes you would have thought so. Probably a full-back and centre-back, two midfielders and a striker and a goalkeeper.

Craig Gordon not being in the Hearts squad, presumingly tells us he isn’t 100%.  Do we think he misses out?  Was hoping he’d be our no1 but looking unlikely to the point, im wondering if he’ll even go.

Did the 55 list ever get leaked?  Do the players know they are on it / not on it, where they are on it. Just seems like a waste of time to me.

Probably boils down to a) definite 20 odd, then the next 10 ish, then the ones who would need a covid type situation to be selected for the finals.

Gauld has not played for over six months and he has only just returned to training. I think it will be Lennon Miller in there. And Findlay Curtis in place of Stewart. I think that is how Clarke will go.
