There’s Celtic fans with more minutes on the pitch under their belt this season than Ralston ffs - think 10 defenders is about right though given injuries/ age but wouldn’t have picked him personally.

Hirst for Burke would be my only other change.

Callum McGregor must be kicking himself. He could have been going to a world cup had he not retired.

Would anyone accept him back in if we suddenly had an injury crisis in midfield?

Most certainly would be angry, ditched us as couldn’t give a f***, added to the fact that he is no good enough

I would say he is good enough. We had a fair bit of success with him in midfield.

Saying that I don't know how I would feel about letting him back in. It would have to be a seriously bad injury crisis.

France, Haiti and Brazil all announced squads today with 5 midfielders and 9 forwards.

Would it not have shown a bit of positive intent, if we had included BGD, Curtis and possibly McGinn and Christie as Forwards.

Then at least it might look like we plan to attack, instead of parking the bus for 3 games...

Bit of positive psychology!!

Clutching at straws there bud, if that's all you've got to moan about. 😉

To accommodate five at the back (if we go with that which i'm sure we will within games) we might have taken Doig. Robertson isn't playing three (or more) lots of 90 minutes. So we need another left back to allow Tierney and McKenna to compete for the LCB slot. Doig can also play LCB as well as LB and LWB.

I said when we qualified that the players that got us there deserve the chance to go. Ralston was one of those so that's that but he's barely played and McCrorie can cover more positions including RCB.

I think not taking Burke is a huge mistake (i'd have him in over Hirst or Stewart) but delighted for Curtis.

Well, its a very Stevie Clarke kind of squad.

I'd hoped for Bowie as an emerging talent, but no friendly call up earlier this year, and your name's not down, your not coming in. I'd hoped he's been excluded to fit into his new Serie A workplace.

On the positive side, its a squad to beat Haiti and park the bus against Morocco and Brazil.  Which might be all we need to do

Yes but he has choosen to take 10 defenders and only 8 midfielders. 9 and 9 would have been a better split which could have meant Miller for Ralston.

We have 4 defenders in the squad who are better at RB than Ralston.

Our good midfielders aren't injury prone, our defenders are.

Ross was in my squad a few years ago,” Clarke said. “He has had a terrible run of injury. He has hit a rich vein of form since January, big goals in big games. He has shown he can score from the bench. It was a few years ago but Ross fitted in very well within the group. You need good relationships within the group. It is important we have that.”

At least Ross Stewart is a bit different but I'd rather have had Bowie than Hirst, based on future potential.

Totally underwhelmed. 7 players going who will never be in another Scotland squad after this World Cup and another 2 or 3 who will be but shouldn’t be.

SFA Please don’t renew Clarke’s contract

The same 7 players who got us to the world cup?

Don't half read some amount of shite on here but you take the biscuit.

Not sure thats true. I think McGregor would have still started games alongside gilmour had he stuck around. Mctominay and Ferguson can play as attacking mids which mctominay mostly does anyways.

We are a better team without McGregor. A vastly overrated player who knew his level was the SPFL.

In what way are we better? He played in nearly all our best results during clarkes tenure.

I wouldn't say we are worse since he retired but suggesting we have become better is strange.

Ferguson is a much more rounded footballer than McGregor is. Definitely an upgrade for me

Ralston - perfect example of a Celtic player carried along by the big signings and made to look a lot better than they are. Brutally caught out and exposed at the last euros. He is extremely fortunate.

Agreed, very effective and functional at certain aspects at a relatively low club level but fairly limited in other areas. Not the elite level player that we are after.

How can they make him look better than he is, when he almost never plays alongside them?

Like Shankland?

Easily the best finisher in that squad, by some distance.

29 appearances this season - enough to be carried along and pick up the medals.

Nobody ever said he was elite. We don't have many elite players to choose from and we have to make the best of what we have.

McGregor did a good job for us for several years. Probably our best centre mid during Clarke's reign until he retired.

Not sure why he gets alot of hate. He turned up and never called off. Put in alot of good performances that helped us qualify for tournaments.

Ah, OK , thanks. I didn't realise that. I don't follow what Celtic are up to. Based on how some folk talk on here, you would think Ralston has barely played all season. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.😉

The other side of that is that if he has had 29 games, then maybe he isn't as bad as what some folk are making out?
