Hi, How is everyone travelling to the match from the Boston area?

I just happen to be looking at Haiti now, and Scandalous is the under statement of the century. IDK what your price point is but currently for 2 Seats together. This is probably the best available on the Resell.

If anyone is staying south of Boston, there is now an option through rally. Useful as no commuter trains running near there ln match days so challenging to get to Boston for the train https://rally.co/fifa-world-cup-2026-match-5/from/holiday-inn-boston-dedham-hotel-ma

There's a specific world cup train running on match days. Tickets available via the mbta app. (well they should be soon, beer checking it every 10 mins!)

Just noticed that was a bus ride. Apparently for the Brazil v France game, traffic was gridlocked for hours before game so may want to take that into account.

[Train tickets]

Anyone managed to get train tickets? I keep getting Registration Fail message when trying the same email address I bought tickets with, rather frustrating

Thanks- issue is that train is only from south station to foxboro, doesn’t stop at Dedham. Also the commuter train from Dedham to south station is impacted by match day and nothing running back from station post match so would need train then a taxi so more expense. Train tickets on sale now, hope you get ok

Hi, group of 4 travelling from North End to Foxboro. In protest of the insane ticket pricing for transport ie. Bus + Train, we decided we would try to get Ubers back and forth instead. Is this something that will be viable at the time? My concerns regard that however are on the pricing of these - I can’t imagine it works out any cheaper between 4 for a return journey unfortunately if that is what the city charges for trains and buses. Failing that, is there any alternative means of travel? Surely the trains are running their regular services too for others not interested in the football. Are there no stations within a mile radius of Foxboro?

 

With that in mind, i’m simply looking for advice. Is it better to bite the bullet on the transport provided or wait?

I'd go with either bus or train provided personally and going by reports. In theory you could get an Uber for about $40 - $50 each way for that trip that would take all 4 of you whereas a train is going to cost you $320, the official bus is going to cost you $380 and a Rally bus will cost you $240. We looked at Ubers also but reports from the recent France v Brazil friendly at Boston suggest that lots of Ubers failed to turn up for people trying to book them and massive traffic snarl ups meant many gave up trying to get there and turned around, leaving people to walk miles to get to the stadium. And that's before you factor in that during the World Cup you can rest assured surge pricing on Ubers will see their prices factor up multiple levels. Even if it just doubles (which is probably optimistic) then you're only saving about $50 on a Rally bus and there's far better reliability about the group transports. We've booked the trains on the basis they won't (presumably) have to worry about traffic jams).

As far as I am aware MBTA have cancelled all regular trains to Foxborough / Gillette Stadium to allow for the dedicated special service and I presume the same is likely for any service buses. They've definitely cancelled all regular train services from Boston and Providence. 

We were initially going to stay in the sticks outside the big cities but after doing a bit of research and calculation decided it was false economy as even without surge pricing getting anywhere by Uber from where we'd have been would have been in excess of $100 per day. We were as well sticking that into the pot and getting a hotel in Boston was what we decided ultimately. I'd think matchday Uber hires will be completely unreliable and those that do show will be exorbitant. 

To be honest, if you're determined to go by car you'd almost certainly be cheaper to just hire one although there is very limited parking at the stadium and I believe it's $170 per car so it's probably still not much cheaper. Looks like a car, if you can get one, will cost between £50 and £100 per day in the Boston area during the World Cup if booked now. If yuo add that to a parking space it's just about as expensive as the dedicated transport and one of you is going to have to drive.

There will be no regular train service on match days to the stadium.  Thats why they can charge what they want for the match trains. Dont know if it is the same for the American football or not.  However, the road network will be a complete disaster on match days, whether hire car, uber, supporters buses or other transport relying on the roads. The easiest way by far to get to the game will be the rip off priced match trains. Go for an earlier one if they are still available. More chance that there will be delays later in the day.

Uber for Morocco game for me.

I’ll leave stupidly early - stupidly so the uber drive can get another fare after.  

Ill get there before the trains and just sit and eat and drink in a bar.

After the game ill sit and watch the game after then worry about getting back.

Have no faith in the trains working well.

Fair enough. I’ll probably have to look into it. Wouldn’t mind being around the stadium a good couple hours prior! Better to be safe than sorry though I guess.

How come? Just a hunch or do you have experience with the Boston rail network on events like these?

I’m no expert at all mate.

For the Brazil warm up match the early trains were fine and then the later ones were a joke from reports. After the game it was first come first serve which took 4/5 hours to clear. 
 

2 ways of looking at it. The first is that they’ll have time to sort any issues and I hope that’s the case. The second option is that this will have far more people taking the train so could be worse.

I’m not at the Haiti game (only doing Morocco and Brazil) so if it works well I’ll entertain booking it.
 

I can’t be bothered being in a rush to get back and trying to get an early train. I’m on holiday and just gonna take the hit and take it all as it comes.

Fair enough. I’d be inclined to believe the warm up game displayed what probably needs rectified before the WC and hopefully they learn from that.

What time is the last train on the day after the game? Surely we could easy sit a bar for an hour or 2 prior to heading back?

really helpful this - thanks. I think we probably will just get the trains. What time is the last train? Trying to figure out if it’ll be a mad rush after the game or if we will be able to relax at a bar nearby.

Good luck with that. Gillette Stadium's in the middle of nowhere and Americans traditionally have tailgate parties in the car park (which won't be permitted at the World Cup). It's not exactly overflowing with places to accommodate 40,000 people looking for a drink and a tv. There are about 3 or 4 bars in Patriot Place from what I understand and that's it although presumably there will be concessions all over the place in the stadium but they will likely close post match given the time of it. Bear in mind the game is a 9pm ko so you're leaving the ground after 11pm. 

On the way to the stadium there are organised Boarding Groups to stagger the demand (we're in group B so boarding at Boston at 3:30 - 4pm and should arrive at the ground by 6pm at latest. On the way back it's just a mass scramble apparently with the first trains departing 30 minutes after the final whistle and they keep going until everyone has gone. There's no set timetable for this, just as long as it takes though given boarding is across more than 3 hours I'd assume it will take a potential similar amount of time. I expect the whole thing to be a complete nightmare tbh and I'm not expecting to see my hotel room before 3am.

This is true for Foxboro; however you can get the train to Walpole and then get to Gillette. The problem with this for the Haiti game is you'd only have an hour to get back there for the train but should be very achievable Vs Morrocco. There are also some nice boozers in Walpole.

Achievable how as a matter of interest? It's 6 miles, I'm not fancying the walk much! The traffic issues around Gillette Stadium will still apply coming from Walpole as much as they do coming from further away and if there are no trains into Foxborough then that's not an option. I presume local buses if any such things exist will also be subject to any traffic issues.

Haha neither do I. If you are arriving early I don't think the traffic will be an issue until later on so you could get a local cab from there. After the Morrocco game there is much more time available to get a train back so you could go hang about patriot place before doing the journey in reverse. Imperfect solution. There's no local buses that I could find.
