The Willie Watson thread got me looking back to the earliest memories of supporting my team. I reckon this was the 1st Well squad I remember. Worth it for the hair cuts (check out Colin McAdam) and cracking sponsor free old kits.

Jamie Fairlie was a terrific player. Was Ferguson the goalie?

Was McManus the wee right winger? I watched many a game under the lights at the old Douglas Park after we moved round the corner from it when I was about 16. I had already been going to Celtic for a few years by then or I’d probably have ended up an Accies fan.

yeah, i remember of him kind of playing the same position as dalglish so maybe he would have had more caps otherwise.

hearts were in debt to dundee utd for a while after the transfer.  My great uncle was on the board of Hearts around then and resigned over Mercers insistence at putting youth players like Bowman and Gary Mackay up for sale to settle thre debt.

Yes - Ricardo Ferguson was a legend and was eventually replaced by Allan Ferguson (no relation)

For almost 25 years there was a Ferguson between the sticks at Accies

Yes - Rubber legs McGrogan was left wing and McManus was on the right

Sometimes they would reverse and that's why they were memorable because when you were hanging over the wall at the shed as a wee boy you were right close to them

My Dad took me to my first Clyde game (My Mum wouldn't let him take me to the Rangers games, his team,  as he was a Brigton boy) early - mid seventies

Jim Cairnie (Goalie)

Danny McGrain (would have been capped for Scotland but serious injury that ended his career)

Willie McVie

Alan Swan

Brian Ahern

Dom Sullivan

Stevie Archibald

Loved going to Shawfield when I was young, some great characters in our support back then, mainly came from The Oatlands, Rutherglen, Gorbals & Castlemilk areas of the city

The first Rangers team I can really remember is when Souness came in and brought half the England squad with him so the likes of Woods, Butcher, Roberts and a bit later Stevens, Wilkins, Walters etc being added to McCoist, Cooper, Durrant, Ferguson.

My Mum was related through marriage to Frank McGarvey and growing up just outside Paisley I always had a soft spot for St Mirren so have strong memories of their cup winning team of 87 with Money, Fitzpatrick, Abercrombie, Lambert, Ferguson, Cameron, the 2 Hamiltons and of course McGarvey!

Fergies Furies (76/77 Season)

Midfield of Billy Stark, Billy Abercrombie, Tony Fitzpatrick and Lex Richardson.

A young striker Frank McGarvey up front.

In the second tier and went 28 league games unbeaten, played top flight Motherwell away in the Scottish Cup, attendance was 28,000, it was estimated there was over 18,000 Saints fans there that day.

Arse end of 70s early 80s shit Hibs team, beautiful strip truly awful team of utter no marks and fat finished alkies (George Best). Fans gathering outside the main stand after most home games demanding the sacking of ex legendary players (now shit managers) Stanton and Blackley. Then Alex Miller turned up for 10 years ☹️

Killie 1977-78

This is the first Killie team I remember seeing. Was strange seeing them in stripes rather than hoops a few years later.

Dundee Utd. Graeme Payne? Henry Hall?

Close, but no cigar. You got one of the players right but the wrong club.

My father started taking me to Pittodrie in the early 70s,

Bobby Clarke, Jim Hermiston, Martin Buchan, Steve Murray, Arthur Graham, Davie Robb, Joe Harper all stand out and of course Zoltan Varga who sadly never stayed long but was a fantastic player.

I'll give you another clue. It's the team that played in a League Cup Semi final at Hampden.

Forfar Athletic, took Rangers to extra time.
