Meh

I was there last year. You might want to stick a peddle up your arse because all you’ll be doing is walking up hills

Spot on, the hills are something else, and that is from someone who lives in Sheffield too.

One of the best places i've been though. Stayed in the central Ribeira district, handy for all the usual tourist bits around the river and transport connections further afield.

Great bars and food either side of the river, with the port warehouses well worth a visit. Great nighltlife up the hill around the university area and the Harry Potter related bookshop.

For footy purposes, did the FC Porto museum tour, far and away the best one I have done. Goes on forever. Went to Boavista's ground, but was all closed up due to them being wound up. Train/tram to Matosinhos stops near the Leixoes ground, so if you get the time I recommend a trip out there, the beach and walk along the front is great. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Thanks for that it’s really helpful.

I think we’re a bit out out of the way in the Porto Palaccio Hotel on Avenida de Boavista. Looks nice though. If it really is that hilly we’ll probably just Uber it about. Drop us another line if you think of anything else otherwise cheers! 👍

Hi, think you are in a nice area in Boavista, if it is in and around their ground. Saw some nice big hotels around there when I dropped by. Got off the tram around there and there were plenty of buses around, so you should be well connected to the city and airport. Did a river trip (not the big one that goes right up the Douro river) that was quite good. Took about an hour under all the bridges in Porto. Cable car from the Vila Do Gaia side of the of the river will save your legs a big climb to the top of the big iron bridge, although you can walk directly onto it from the Porto side via the far end of the main shopping street or via a lift from the quayside underneath it.

A group of us were there for a few days enroute to the Scotland match in Braga (when Rab Douglas saved Figo's penalty). A couple from that group were back in Porto recently and came back absolutely raving about it. Said it was now brilliant.

Other than Porto, some other top-flight clubs nearby, so maybe you can catch a match...

I don't know what's going on with Boavista FC, but your hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the stadium.

I know they had a museum (so too do FC Porto).
