romanticscot Posted March 27 Posted March 27 The cost to get to, stay, and navigate to Foxborough has me thinking I am going to give it a miss. I am looking ahead to the second round as being more plausible and cost effective for me. Here are what I can discern as options. If we are 1st or 2nd its crystal clear. Finish Date Venue opponent 1st June 29th Houston Group F runner up 2nd June 29th Guadaloupe Group C winner 3rd June 29th Foxborough Group E winner 3rd June 30th East Rutherford Group I winner 3rd June 30th Mexico City Group A winner Quote

If finishing as one of the best (8) 3rd place teams there is a far greater chance of being in Boston (70%) or Mex City (29%). Chance of ending up in the NY/NJ match is less than 1%. Quote

Gemmill78er Posted March 28 Posted March 28 If I were staying beyond the Brazil game it would be Houston all the way! A logistical nightmare, though, as it's an easy commute between Boston and Mexico City! Quote
colinreid9 Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Someone smarter than me did an analysis which showed that if we finish third: there’s a 2/3 chance we’re back in Boston there’s a 1/3 chance we are in Mexico City there’s a less than 1% chance we are in NYC/MetLife. I don’t have the link but it all made sense when I read it. Quote
Ally Bongo Posted March 29 Posted March 29 It's arguable that analysing who Scotland might play in the 2nd round isn't actually smart ... Quote

I was going to say I admire the OPs optimism. One thing I’ve discovered is that even with good planning this WC is horrendous price wise. Last minute dot com to Mexico City is a bridge too far for me. In terms of cost, planning, leave and political blowback back home from my wife. If we get to the knockouts I’ll be watching with my Dad and boys back home in the West Country. J Quote

J I am not being that optimistic that we will make it, at least not this week. My point is for me, it will be wiser to spend my money for the second round providing we are not up in NY or Boston should we make it. The Boston train tickets costs were the last straw; the fans are simply being exploited. Quote
DoonTheSlope Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Now that all the participants and groups have been finalised has anyone calculated our route to the final? Quote

I know a guy who lives there and says the new metro to the stadium won't be finished and building it is causing chaos. It is Monterrey, but stadium is in area called Guadalupe. I’ve been routinely getting mixed up with both names used and further confusing myself by mixing up with Guadalajara. 😆 Estadio BBVA, formerly known as Estadio BBVA Bancomer, is an association footballstadium located in Guadalupe, Greater Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. Dubbed "El Gigante de Acero" (lit. 'The steel giant'),[2] it replaced the Estadio Tecnológico as the home of C.F. Monterrey, ending the club's 63-year tenure at that venue. Its name is branded after the BBVA Spanish bank, and specifically its Mexican branch BBVA Mexico. Edited April 1 by AlfieMoon Quote
bdgsct Posted April 1 Posted April 1 If we finish 3rd we could be waiting until games finish on 27th before knowing for sure where to go for the 2nd round which as above could be played as early as 29th. Not foolproof but I notice if either of groups D or F FAIL to have a successful 3rd place qualifier then we will almost certainly be in Boston. Given groups D and F look competitive without an obvious whipping boy and therefore slightly less likely to have a 3rd place qualifier, then its perhaps mor like 80% than it could be Boston. These groups are worth keeping an eye on when they conclude on 25th. Quote

The World Cup 2030 I reckon will move to a Champions League style round robin tournament for the first round to further maximise money. The 2026 knock out round qualification of 1st and 2nd from each group plus two thirds of 3rd places is too clunky and mathematical. Just put all qualifiers in a league format, play maybe 4 games against opponents (or 5 to really squeeze the $$$$) and create a last 16 knock out tournament by truncating the league table at that point. Ally Bongo Posted April 4 Posted April 4 The 2030 tournament is already a dug's dinner Folk can lose interest very quickly and if 2026 doesn't break the camel's back then 2030 will It's going to be a bigger nightmare for travelling fans as well which would seem to be FIFA's goal Quote

I will have a mixture of emotions of we play on the 4th of July in Houston. I will be landing in Aberdeen then; I can watch the match with my uncle and Cousins so that will be a positive. Looking ahead to 2023, goodness knows the thinking of playing on three continents. Portugal and Morocco actually isn't bad. I reckon there will be a gap between the matches in South America and the main tournament to allow acclimatization. They could have had a separate tournament with the current champs from the Euros, Copa America, Gold cup, African cup of Nations, Asian cup etc........or as I expect many of here would be saying -do nothing at all. Back to this year, we might be somehow surprised, the tournament may be full of drama, excitement and a good event for us. Time to be more positive. Quote
