Lesson learned there but I’m sure SC made them practice them prior to Israel and Serbia. Allan Browne - twice he’s missed a pen in play offs now having missed in Slovakia in 2020 - brutal. Watch a link earlier where Bellamy said Wales practiced penalties every day in the lead-up to last night. Never helped. Quote

By all accounts he was always dedicated to and passionate about football, he just had an unfortunate habit as a younger man of not knowing when to keep his mouth shut. It's to his credit though that he's acknowledged he has behaved like a fanny at times in the past. Compare that with Roy Keane, who will blame his high profile temper tantrums on everyone but himself. I was only half watching the game but there was a bit of a fracas with the managers and I think one of the Bosnia staff got booked. From what I seen Bellamy was trying to play the situation down , a younger Bellamy would probably have ended up booked too. So it does look like he has changed a bit. Quite a few folk seem to be happy that Wales got beat. I don’t feel much animosity towards them. Feel for both them and ROI. On the other hand I am not losing any sleep over NI … Quote

Ha, ffs well there you go. I suppose in theory you’re maximising your chances if you do some good practice. Didn’t Southgate/ England do a tonne of work on them and it got them through 2 or 3 shoot outs (obvs barring euros final). Obvs it’s easy to sit and watch but the ones where they hit them, half way up the goal at a good height for the goalie with not much pace I just can’t abide. As a general rule I’d want to just zip it in low with plenty force as far into the corner as poss. The ones that go over the bar, like Brennan Johnson’s are just mental -it’s almost like the nervous energy has made the ball fly off into the air. Think you have to remain unbelievably focused. Quote

Scotland were totally ridiculed by all of those nations, we were their source of amusement for months leading up to the tournament. ( And during it, countless amounts of times mentioning the absence of the Tartan Army) So f”ck them, I’m glad they all missed out, Karma bitch etc etc. Quote

I just don’t understand why so many people like to see Ireland doing so well just because it’s close. It’s like when it comes to club football, why do so many people in Scotland like Newcastle just because it’s close by? The irony is all the Newcastle fans hate England Quote

Always had a good time whenever I have been to Dublin and people are friendly too. However can’t stand Wales & NI so like yourself, glad that they both got papped out last night and their game against each other now on Tuesday night is a meaningless friendly rather than a World Cup playoff final match. I have no love for Wales but neither am I gleeful if they lose. Quote

On the other hand I am not losing any sleep over NI … I'm the same as you there. Wales had a good campaign and really ought to have won on Thursday, and the Irish being in contention at all is admirable considering how they began their qualifiers. I tend to look at those nations as a barometer of how Scotland are getting on, and at the moment I think we're a bit better. So while I'm neither gleeful nor sad that they've failed to make the World Cup, I feel it would have taken some of the shine off our achievement had they made it through. I guess it's a bit like when you were at school and got a good mark in an exam and were feeling pleased with yourself, then discovered your friend, who you thought wasn't quite as clever as you, got the same result - your achievement felt a bit diminished. Or maybe it was just me who thought like that and I'm actually a bit of an arse! 😂 Quote
DoonTheSlope Posted March 29 Posted March 29 What a magnificent gesture by the Northern Ireland FA who have missed out on a multi million pound windfall. In recognition of their fans continued support they have offered refunds to their fans travelling to the playoff losers friendly in Wales on Tuesday Meanwhile the SFA have guaranteed at least £7.8million. They bleat about how great a support we are and are charging us up to £45 to watch overpaid primaddonas go through the motions in half hearted kick abouts against Japan and Curacao Quote

McTeeko Posted April 2 Posted April 2 The wee man was gutted as we walked back into the city centre the other night when the Poland result came through. “Aw well” he said, “At least Scotland have a 50/50 chance of winning it”. ”Eh? How do we have a 50/50 chance?” I said. He replied “We’ll either win it or we’ll no”. 😆 Quote
