PMH Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Can anyone recommend a website or shop for half decent lightweight kilts? Buying three for me and my boys so keen not to go overboard. I loved us all wearing our clan tartan kilts in the Euros, but they are full heavy weight efforts, but as we were traveling by car it wasn't an issue. Travelling with backpacks plus the Miami heat has made me reconsider. Any advice warmly welcomed 👍 Quote
lauchlan Posted March 13 Posted March 13 I considered lightweight kilt too and have one. The problem is it fans out after a short time and looks more like a cheap skirt rather than a kilt. Having worn proper kilts my whole life, it just doesn't feel right either. I've sweated buckets at a wedding in Ibiza wearing a proper weight kilt standing in direct sunlight for around 2 hours with tie and waistcoat. It was uncomfortable but still glad I didn't go for lightweight as is it wouldn't be right for a wedding and would look shit with everything else. At least at the football we will have t-shirts, or no shirts, and can find shade or aircon bar at any time 😄 Quote
giblet Posted March 13 Posted March 13 i took one to Germany, was alright up to the 2nd day of wearing it, the problem you have with them is they start to fan out, and they can start to look real weird! Quote
Tartan Dazzie Posted March 16 Posted March 16 I don’t know what you boys are doing with your lightweight kilts, can’t say I’ve ever had that problem 😂 Obviously they’re naff compared to the real thing but for a few days, more than do the job 👌 Think the last one I got was from that Heritige site above. Would recommend getting from there. Quote
PMH Posted March 16 Author Posted March 16 (edited) Out of interest, can you remember if you go one of their cheaper ‘deluxe’ (£65) ones or the ‘lightweight party kilt’ (£45)? Edited March 16 by PMH Quote

Lightweight party kilt. Think mine lasted me 10 trips before getting replaced. Decent value considering what it’ll have been put through. Quote
Jamezh11 Posted March 17 Posted March 17 @ard.engineered are launching a new fully lightweight kilt for the World Cup. www.ardengineered.com Quote
mikinoz2 Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Sealskin sporrans, is it worth the risk or is buying a cheap one a better option? Quote

I have a feeling mine is sealskin. Have traveled around the world with it for 28 years. Not worried about it in the States. If asked just don’t say it’s seal. Say it’s rabbit. J Quote
shaddypeekey Posted March 31 Posted March 31 For a proper kilt experience, get one with pockets. I did this for Germany. Game changer! Quote
giblet Posted March 31 Posted March 31 ended up getting a heavy second hand one from the Kilt shop at the foot of the Forth Rail Bridge. 150 quid. decent. Quote
