This must be a real head scratcher for some people.

Do they get angry at the yanks for attacking Iran? Or do they get excited at the prospect of the people or Iran being free of sharia law, especially women.

It's possible to dislike regimes around the world and also be wary or critical of those attacking them.

US consulate attacked in Karachi.

It's an effing tinderbox with absolutely no day after plan. It's almost like bumping off Iranian leaders is a badge of honour for Trump and Bibi and something for their CVs.

Fully expect years of payback terrorism with innocent civilians in Europe and the middle east getting targeted while Trump and Netanyahu have secret service agents watching their fat spotty arses 24/7.

I think people forget that the former Shah of Iran was CIA-backed.

That didn't end well.

This has got nothing do with regime change in order to help the ordinary people of Iran. The yanks don't care about them in the slightest. This is still mainly about oil. It has always been about controlling the oil. Right back to the days of Mosaddegh. They claim it's about a nuclear weapons program but they know that's all bullshit.

Yep. Iran was always on the list.

The Wesley Clark plan in action, chaos, control and power. Controlling the Straits of Hormuz would be a huge prize to win for the US.

Another prime example of BiBi and Trump not giving two flying fucks about international law. And, as usual, the silence from an incredibly weak Starmer is deafening

Well, it's a difficult balancing act. Listening to Richard Tice and Pritti Patel this morning, they're desperate for us to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Trump and Netanyahu.

And yet, they're the type of people who bring up Blair and Iraq.

Its both IMO. A regime change is what they want but because a change in Iranian leadership potentially means less threat towards israel

A bloke on twitter is saying that is part of a plan to hit China above all else.

Venezuela and Iran were Chinas main oil exporters, both of them will now cease trading with China. China is already looking weaker after years of domestic struggles, now they will have big issues internationally as well.

Trump is looking to consolidate the US as the only real superpower, with China on its arsenal, its game over.

Uhh really?

Its the US that is weak, they are a dying empire and that's why they are lashing out in the way they are. They know China has already won and that's why the US are desperately trying to cling on to relevance by using 20th century colonial strategies. The only problem this time is that nuclear weaponry is now on the cards and I hope they dont bring us all down with them.

Im absolutely no fan of the USA, but in what ways have the Chinese won?

Also, China is trying to its best to colonise half of South East Asia and large parts of Africa. China is not the good guy by any means.

Its not about good guys and bad guys its about global geopolitical power and influence. But if you do want to talk about morality then the US are without question the worst and most dangerous superpower on the planet.

China's economy is growing at a rapid rate, BRICS is a larger economic block than the G7 now and they're only going to get bigger as the US isolates itself further from the rest of the world.

China is much, much smarter in the way it is exerting its power and influence globally, they aren't bombing nations and turning local populations against them. They're investing in their local infrastructure and owning those countries through debt.

The US are following exactly the same playbook of all dying empires of centuries past and as they further invest in military intervention globally, living standards will continue to plummet for the population the country. They're on the brink of collapse despite the show of force militarily.

The US is indeed a dangerous power, that's one of the reasons that it got to the top.

China has lied about its economy for years, it has massive internal issues, as manufacturing leaves China that will only get worse, it is on the way down, not up. The reducing population issues, along with the aging population will be a serious strain on a country entirely against immigration, it will not end well for the Chinese individuals.

BRICs members care about economic growth, they have no kinship with China, India will never trust China, nor will Russia despite what some people think, there is no big/little brother relationship there. That's the big 3 in BRICs, none of the other members are anywhere near as important as them, South Africa is basically a failed state, Brazil switches minds every decade, UAE is as pro American as they come, etc

The bit in bold, you really think that's good? Ask what the average Sri Lankan, Cambodian or Laotian has to say. As for investing in infrastructure, tell that to the people killed in Serbia from faulty work, or the people in Montenegro who have an unusable billion pound strip of tarmac, theres plenty more examples of China screwing over their supposed partners.

Granted, Ive never been the US, but Ive travelled extensively through China, if you want to talk about living standards, Id recommend doing so, you'd be very surprised by how bad the vast majority of the country is. The US will not crash and disappear anytime soon, and certainly not to Chinas favour.

Isn't that what Elliot Page has?

Had never heard of this person but probably !

I was trying badly to think of a term that showed the two extreme positions posted within minutes of each other

😄 You're being more sensible than me; I was just making a puerile (and probably transphobic) joke!

Not the best thread for such a thing, however.

I doubt Elliot Page would have been able to mutilate her body in Iran

That being said the authorities would probably have obliged but not in the way she wanted

What a sad story

UK bases now good to go for the yanks to use.

Turns out that all we had to agree was that they would only be used for “defensive” bombing of targets in Iran, which is 100% definitively confirmed as totally wholly different from “offensive” bombing of them.

One of the anomalies of Iran is that although LGB is against the law there, T is legal and there's quite a lot of it.

Im definitely scratching my head too. I cant understand people like Jeremy corbyn who are very much pro human rights, aligning themselves with protesters who carry posters of the ayatollah of Iran. This is a guy who's human rights record is horrendous all in the name of their version of god.

I think it applies to the other side too, people not so concerned about women's rights in USA suddenly concerned about womens rights in Iran (but not Saudi Arabia, say. Or Afghanistan, for that matter.)
