Ahh, interesting. Good to hear. I remember you saying you were thinking of making the move to the renewable industries.

Seems you know which way the wind is blowing (literally!)

i will give it a go however the work is extremely boring, time off not so great nor the money. i will most likely go back offshore,,As with the oil industry it is starting to be filled with guffys.. There needs to be some protectionism to local workers as lets be honest its our waters thats being ruined by these wind farms

In my experience it has been filled by 'guffys' for at least over two decades.

I used to deal with them very regularly as I had to serve them on trains southbound from Aberdeen as they came offshore and headed home to Tyneside/Merseyside etc. total arseholes. Even though they earned money to burn they were the most tight-fisted, rude, arrogant, antagonist cretins I had to serve on trains. They made football supporters seem palatable in comparison.

And this (evidently) was not just on ScotRail trains as GNER/LNER had specific services frequented by them that they had an alcohol ban on because of them.

What is a 'guffy'? I can maybe guess but not what it stands for...

my guess would be 50/50 Scots English, service companies are predominantly scots. most of the lads i worked with flew or drove home, for it the industry being based in Scottish waters the guffys are way over represented. they have a very clannish mindset from northeast England, once one get in they get all their mates in.The Britannia was filled with lads from Yorkshire as the OIM was from there. The total assets were predominately Scots, BP had a lot of Welsh to be fair . Time for scotland to start looking after its own again instead of being side tracked

I am surprised no one has mentioned anything about the green party candidate that wants to abolish prisons …..

Whilst I understand ( and agree with) the underlying reasons for questioning the benefit of prisons for people committing less serious crimes, this seems a pretty stupid thing to say especially so close to an election where your party is polling well.
It has probably been twisted by certain sections of the media and I know the Green party’s general stance is still to imprison those who have committed violent crimes (as a last resort ) , but unfortunately there will always be ‘bad ‘ people who continually break the law for non violent crimes. Rehabilitation doesn’t work for everyone.

If it sparks a debate about reforming our justice system then that would be good. There are clearly people who need to be locked up, and many who need to be locked up for far longer than the current sentences being handed down. On the other side there are also far too many people in our prisons, and not enough people willing to tackle the questions of, why and what can be done to reduce it?

The way our society is going though, it might be too late to do anything about it, and the only answer is to build more prisons an accept that a sizeable chunk of the population have to be isolated from the rest of us. Although we should all remember that every one of us is only a few mistakes or a few bits of bad luck away from joining the "undesirables".

I agree with all that , and there are people who have been dealt a pretty shite hand in life  from the moment they were born never mind encountering bad luck.

I just think it was a pretty naive thing to say and whilst her intentions were good the reality is its highly unlikely there will ever be a prisonless society.

I dunno? Once we get round to micro chipping the entire population, we should be able to control people without the need for prisons. The technology isn't quite ready yet though.

For one of the offences she got 100 hrs community service and 30 rehabilitation lessons. Thats totally pointless if, as you say, there are underlying psychological issues which are not properly addressed as part of the rehabilitation .
I remember her on ‘Its a Celebrity’ years ago, she came over much smarter than her public persona made out and looked a million times better without makeup . I couldn’t understand why she felt the need to alter her appearance.
I don’t follow celebrity stuff so i am not quite sure why she has got to where she has, but you cant have folk with 7 driving convictions , two of them for drunk driving, and simply ban them. She had also been convicted for driving without a licence and insurance on another charge. I don’t know what the answer is but I hope it doesn’t finally get addressed only after a fatality.

edit to apologise for  diverting the Scottish election thread onto Katie Price !

Labour must have spent a fortune on advertising on behalf of the Scottish Branch

You can't watch anything on Youtube without Sarwar or god forbid Davy Russell popping up

I swear on my mothers life, I was just away to post that.

Im inundated with various twats, sorry tweets from Labour candidates all over Scotland. Its actually quite bewildering how bad it is.

I didn’t realise the SNP were allowing sitting MP’s to go for this election. I had to google who it was in relation to the post above. Gethins it seems?

Is that right enough that the SNP position is that he’d resign from WM and trigger a by-election?

Any others in same situation?
