AAAfather Posted February 22 Posted February 22 I do think Townsend has reached the end of the road for coaching Scotland though. He's out of ideas. After the Rugby World Cup he will, no surprise, move to Newcastle Red Bulls for a Jurgen Klopp style Red Bull sporting director oversight role, and Franco Smith take over. The Scots back line he has had available in his tenure is a bit of a golden generation (even strength in depth - Jordan, Hastings, Ollie Smith, Hutchinson unable to get game time among the excellence of Russell, Jones, Kinghorn, Tuipolotu et al.) Yet a string of mid table finishes. We can raise our game for England but then get routinely steamrollered with an average pack by France and Ireland. Something for Franco to work on, ad it might take 2-3 years by which time the old guard are retired.
StirlingEgg Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Anyone watching Ireland v Wales? The big guy did well for his Welsh try!

Hertsscot Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Fantastic win. French player lucky to stay in the pitch, trying to gouge Ashman's eye? Disappointing that wasn't picked up on and may make a difference to the final outcome of the championship.
Toepoke Posted March 7 Author Posted March 7 Astonishing game! Typical Scotland if we blow the title by losing to Italy 😖 (although we are consistently horrendous in Dublin).

At least Russell kicked the penalty to stop them getting a losing BP. France have a huge points difference over us though, it's unlikely that losing those tries will matter.

Both teams getting a losing BP.

StirlingEgg Posted March 7 Posted March 7 If you hadn't seen the game then the scoreline you'd be blown away!
AAAfather Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Scotland beat France thrillingly. England lose to Italy humiliatingly. "Phew! I haven't felt that good since Archie Gemmill scored against Holland in 1978!"
bonzo Posted March 8 Posted March 8 We were at a gig yesterday afternoon Mrs B had the score on the phone, 5,10,20,30,40,50 points against France, FRANCE for fucksake, best team in the world? Their bonus point kills us though....

Goozay Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Disappointed nobody started a Gregor Townsend Fuck Off thread after the loss to Italy.
AAAfather Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Ireland are 'there for the taking' says Scotland's Graham (rte.ie) We might do the Irish for once this weekend. If we did, that would be a Grand Slam but for the freak monsoon-athon that was the Italy game in Rome. I think Townsend (clearly off to Red Bull Newcastle after the rugby world cup) will be seen as having missed a trick by not getting a squad ready for the first game, and not making changes in that Italy match from the bench to change its outcome.
