Big Ramy 1314 Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Who do we go with, it's still a few months away, but it's getting exciting. Gordon, Gunn, Bain, and whoever else in the frame.. If our selected keepers are all fit heading to America, who starts ? For me it's Gordon all the way. The man defies age, and he still puts in a shift. Loads of experience and some shot stopper on his day... I think he is the man to lead us, always been reliable, and loves playing for Scotland.... 🏴🏴🏴 Quote
DesiScotsman Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Agree, Gordon for me too. That recent save he made against Dundee was absolutely world class. Quote

mccaughey85 Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Gunn would be my preferred choice. We also need to consider the fact that we need Gunn for the future and it might be best to keep him happy. I know ppl might not like that but we really don't have many decent options if Gunn decides to jack it in. Quote

I would never play a player just to keep them happy if I had better options. They are grown men, and have to accept when someone is in better for not to spit the dummy . Just my opinion pal.. Quote
runningtings Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Gordon is a better keeper all round but is terrible at kicking, I suspect Clarke may pick Gunn as he is better with the ball at his feet. Quote

We won't have any better options after this world cup. Gordon will retire after this tournament and we will need Gunn for the next 4 or 5 years. Theres not much between them imo. Quote
AlfieMoon Posted January 19 Posted January 19 I already commented on another thread that I reckon Gunn will be first choice in June. Most disagreed. Similar to this thread. He’ll be closer to 44 than 43 in June. I noticed McInnes commenting that he was pretty stiff after playing 1.5 games in a week. I can’t see how that is likely to improve between now and the end of season in terms of fitness and game time. Quote

Hertsscot Posted March 20 Posted March 20 I see Jason Steele, the Brighton 2nd or 3rd choice keeper has been included in the England training squad. Bit of a shock inclusion, I think he was eligible for us but never got serious consideration as he never played that regularly. Quote

When you already have 3 GKs in a World cup squad, plus a goalkeeping coach, how could you possibly need a 'training GK'? Quote

I'd love to see slicker as our Training GK If it were me i'd take 3 training players - to help aid in succession planning. After this WC you'd expect Gordon, Hanley and McLean to retire and would be great to bring 3 youngish players in to support in succession planning. I know Craig Brown did something similar at France '98 I'd take Slicker, L. Graham and J. Holsgrove along with the squad - get them used to the managers/coaches, players, expectations, international football. Would be great experience to prepare for squad changes for the next campaign after this WC Quote

Someone experienced with knowledge of a specialised area will be worth more value than using one of the regular training players. It’s also better than taking an inexperienced youngster who might even become overwhelmed in the situation It also maintains a good working relationship between Tuchel and club managers by not taking along a regular starting goalkeeper when there’s zero chance of the player getting any game time especially at the business end of the season Its actually a really clever move by Tuchel Quote
broraboy Posted March 20 Posted March 20 I have an inkling Gordons shoulder injury is being down played, hope I’m wrong but something says his season and World Cup dreams are over Quote

He's been a great goalie. But he's going to be kept busy in at least 2 (maybe 3?) group games and he's at a higher risk of failing to overcome niggles picked up from previous games. Quote

For a guy his age and with the career he's had, playing at the World Cup will be the pinnacle of his career. His crowning glory. He'll be doing everything he can to be fit for June, even if it means slowing his return to his club. This is more important Quote
