Fifa ticket application - World Cup 2026 - Tartan Army Message Board Jump to content

Hi,

I'm on 12 points and have applied for a Cat 1 ticket for the Morocco game, so having no idea if I will get one or not, I looked into applying for the Random Selection Draw (that anyone can apply for) as well at the PMA draw.

I've looked at the wording on my current FIFA "Application Completed" page and it says - "Your application for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Random Selection Draw and Participating Member Association sales phase has been completed. Thank you for submitting your application."

Does that mean I have already applied for the Random Selection Draw?

The email I received from FIFA says - "Thank you for submitting your ticket application for the Random Selection Draw for the FIFA World Cup 2026", no mention of PMA.

I'm hoping someone can advise if I'll be in the Random Selection Draw already or not, Ta.

I think it depends what it says in bold letters near the top of your FIFA confirmation email 🤔 this is what a lot of people are saying in different threads on the forum.

Aye the confirmation email from an SSC application says as above:-

You applied for: My Team Scotland

If you enter the FIFA random draw, the confirmation email says:-

You applied for: Random Selection Draw

Best luck to those of you who are putting yourselves through this.

My view is that the whole thing is a massive rip off but I take my hat off to those of you who are stumping up.  The utter nonsense of having to pay upfront for tickets for games that might not happen.  Who takes the exchange rate risk on the refunds?  is there any interest paid back to the fans as it sits in a fifa bank account?  Charlatans.

I was at the World Cup in France… life was a lot simpler then.

Even that was a feckin nightmare. I took the day off work and spent about 10 hours listening to an engaged tone, eventually got through and the only game I could get tickets for was Denmark v South Africa 🫤

That's for the public sale. I did the same (without the day off work) and got very lucky. I started calling about 8am I think (days before mobile phones so sat just hitting redial on the house phone constantly). About 8:45am I got through to the actual hold queue so, despite being due at work for 9am, I wasn't hanging up that phone! Eventually got through to speak to an actual person about 20 minutes later and secured 4 tickets each for the Scotland v Norway and Scotland v Morocco games. And was still at work before 9:30.

The opening game was already sold out by then but I did eventually source 2 tickets for that elsewhere.

Must have been through the SSC. He's talking about the public sale which was handled just by phoning a number in France back then. People with enough points got all three games from the SSC via postal application. If you didn't have enough points (I didn't - I think I had none as hadn't been to an away game before then and you didn't get home points then either) got allocated a single ticket for one game. I got a Norway ticket via the SSC (or STC as it was then anyway).

Yep I'd not long joined the Travel Club so didn't have enough points for tickets (I ended up getting a pal's for the Norway game).

We still had a great time in Toulouse for Denmark v South Africa. I remember sitting next to this big guy, full Denmark kit on, red & white curly wig, Danish flag face paint. "Are you from Copenhagen?" I asked.

"Excuse moi monsieur, je ne parle pas le danois!" came his panicked reply 😂

I don't think you needed any points to get a ticket. I got one (for Norway) and I'd have had nil points I think. France in 98 was my first foreign "away trip". Maybe there was a cut off in membership time though. I first joined in the early 90's so I'd been a member for a while without having been away. Or maybe there was a loyalty point or something even back then.

I did go to Euro 96 and got all three games from the STC but I doubt you got any points for attending finals matches back them either did you?

It must've been membership length that applied then. I signed up after Euro 96 because I was kicking myself at missing out on going to it.

I joined STC in early 1996, and got all three tickets for Euro 96.

The WC 98 tickets were allocated as follows, I think:-

More than 1 away qualifying game = all 3 tickets.

1 away qualifying game = Brazil ticket.

No away games - random draw for a single ticket.

I went to Gothenburg in 97, so got a Brazil ticket and had to pay £££'so for the other 2.

I joined after Italia 90

Got 3 group game tickets for Sweden 92 - hadnt been to an away game in qualifying

Got 3 group game tickets for England 96 - went to the Greece away game in qualifying

Was in random draw for France 98 and got 1 ticket which was for the Brazil game. Hadnt been to any away games in qualifying

Got a ticket for the Norway game 2 hours before kick off at face value from another Scotland fan we had met

Got a ticket for the Morocco game from the British Embassy office in the St Etienne town hall 4 -5 hours before kick off

That sounds right. I joined in about 1994 I think. It was about the start of 96 qualifying and I'm sure we joined with a view to getting tickets in England if we qualified. Got all three tickets for Euro 96 (the Holte End for the Swiss game is still one of my best memories in football). Didn't go to any way games in 98 qualifying but got a Norway ticket in the allocation. I managed to get the QoS club allocation for the three games though and got through on the phone line to France to get 4 x Norway and Morocco. Went with 5 others. They all had a Brazil ticket in the STC allocation as they'd been to one of the away games. So between us we had enough tickets to cover all three games.

same for me - 1994 i think and I got tickets for all three euro96 games through the travel club.

that was in the days that football was for the fans and the allocations were sensible.  Think we had 20k fans at these games.  The Holt end at Villa park was amazing.

pissed off with the nonsense now with allocations of a few thousand.

The points system didn't start until after the 98 WC. That was the first time that demand outstripped supply for Travel Club members. They did take into account who had been to away games in the 98 WC qualification campaign when deciding how many games each member got tickets for. We didn't know that was going to happen beforehand, though. That was just a bonus for supporters who had travelled to an away game or two during the campaign. It was the first time supporters had been rewarded for going to previous away games.

Depends which category you went for. Cat 1 and Cat 2 for the first 2 games, I'd be surprised if anyone misses out.

Saw a post from the Australian FA saying that notifications  are expected to start dropping on the 6th - with some good news that if your cc fails you will be allowed to edit your application with a working one.

A friend who chose CAT1 with a downgrade has logged in and it shows his application (SSC) with a CAT2, so it appears that's his allocated ticket.

Apparently you can check now if you were successful in the ballot:

https://www.reddit.com/r/WorldCup2026Tickets/comments/1qvf1ls/fifa_app_telling_me_i_bought_4_tickets/

Login to reseller market place on Fifa site, add 4 tickets to basket, and if you were successful, you'll get an error message as indicated in the Reddit post.

if the above is correct then I have been unsuccessful for first 2 games and I applied for cat 1 ! Looks like these games have been fully subscribed after all!

The Scotland’s Coefficient page has posted to say that you can find out now if you have been successful in the ballot or not. You need to log into FIFA’s marketplace resale portal and try to buy 4 tickets for a game which you applied for in the ballot - if you have been in successful in the ballot, you won’t be able to add these market place tickets to your basket as it’s a maximum of 4 tickets per household, meaning you must already have a ticket(s) allocated to your account.

If the above is correct, it appears I have been unsuccessful in the ballot.
