slasher Posted January 8 Posted January 8 As the title says Aer Lingus have pulled their Transatlantic flights from Manchester. I found an email in my trash from them confirming my flights to NYC in the summer are off after a tip off from a friend. I’ve had to start again cancelling all accommodation I had booked as well. I’m merely posting in case anyone on here is in the same boat. I must admit I briefly considered chucking the whole thing in but fuck it in for a penny in for a hundred dollars! Quote

Kev10038 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 look at going via dublin with aer lingus or via Lisbon with TAP. My Boston return is with TAP (Boston-Lisbon-Manchester) and got 1 way for £300 even after the draw. Good luck Quote

Nightmare, hope you get something sorted, I'm based in Porto, there's direct flights from here to Boston on the 10th and 13th of June, still well priced, around £400 1 way Quote
slasher Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Thanks guys. I’m not gonna lie, that was a stressful couple of hours and but for the indomitable patience of Mrs Slasher I’d have probably fucked the whole lot of it off. In the end we have probably come out of it better off for much the same layout financially. A complete rejig means we now fly direct to Boston with Lufthansa via Frankfurt and are now staying in somewhere called Burlington for the duration of the trip. None of it was easy and I feel a bit drained but alls well that ends well……..I hope. Any more nonsense and I’m oot! Quote
Ally Bongo Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Make sure it's the Burlington in Massachusetts and not the Burlington in Vermont It's a 3 hour drive between the two ! Quote

Yeah it’s in a place called Billerica, about 35 or so minutes outside Boston. By the way, it’s also the first time I’ve used AI for anything useful, saved me an awful lot of fannying about. The Aer Lingus and Lufthansa websites are feckin abysmal though, it’s almost like they are trying to induce cardiac episodes! Quote
McTeeko Posted January 9 Posted January 9 What day do you now fly out? We’re out of Frankfurt on the 10th at 13:30 Quote

Was the only one to take the chance before the fixture announcement, so getting it would mean I’m going on my own. Just looking for what I paid (£490) + name change fee (£80). Appreciate there are better deals to be had than a £570 flight from Dublin but worth posting on the off-chance it might interest somebody. Shite news. Just incase it takes anybody’s fancy. Quote

Great you’re all sorted, at least you’ll get some good beers at Frankfurt airport before the American pish water 🍺👍 Quote

I've used them before to go to the US via Dublin and it was ideal with using the US Customs desk there and saving hassle Stateside. I haven't booked anything for this summer yet but ideally was intending to go through Dublin, probably with Aer Lingus, if I could. Quote

I haven't booked anything for this summer yet but ideally was intending to go through Dublin, probably with Aer Lingus, if I could. I was warned not to book them as they had so many cancellations due to technical issues but i foolishly didn't listen. They had a plane turn back last week for the same reason. For whatever reason, their fleet seems to be grounded a fair bit. The travel agency I was speaking about put a block on their bookings as there was so many cancellations/unreliability. That might have changed but that was certainly the case last week. They've been cancelling transatlantic flights for months now, often when passengers are checked in/on way to the airport. Might just be that they have decided to take a hit on the Manchester route and prioritise other routes for the past few months as they knew they were leaving Manchester but i don't trust a word they say. They are still selling flights on their website for June to NYC from Manchester. Quote
Squirrelhumper Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Hopefully this is the end of their unreliability but i wasn't taking any chances so just took the hit and will claim back my money hopefully. Quote
GSS Posted January 9 Posted January 9 We have requested a refund and booked flights from London to New York with Virgin. £400 return on the same dates we were originally going. Quote
