Have Switzerland announced the venues to their other Nations league games yet? Been checking out a few routes but not willing to commit till our venue is confirmed, usually I’d be happy to have a few days dicking about in a foreign land but fuck me it’s an expensive place for digs/trains etc

For the game in Liechtenstein last year I flew into Geneva and bought a day pass for the train. The pass was about £40 and covered any train I took, which ended up being 2 trains and a bus. Didn’t think that was too bad.

Looked at that flight, not much wiggle room for any delays

I've booked it as one flight so fingers crossed it all goes to plan.

Switzerland...

I didn't fancy a crack o'dawn outbound flight or a late night arrival in Switzerland and there didn't seem to be anything in between, so I've just booked Edinburgh to Milan Linate on the Saturday for £37

Saturday night in Milan and then a three/four hour train up to Switzerland. It should be quite a journey if we play in Basle, Bern or Zurich (as opposed to Geneva) because the train will cut straight through the middle of the Alps.

Anybody else going the Milan route?

Yes, doing exactly the same route, on the Saturday. Except we're doing two nights in Milan, and train up on the morning of match day. Partly because we're staying until Thursday, so avoids the cost of one extra night's accommodation in Switzerland!

Hadn’t given any thought re Switzerland. Got as far a booking a hotel in Skopje.

With the mental scheduling and not bing a World Cup year no way I can do Slovenia and Macedonia. Have plumbed for Macedonia, but flights out are just as crap as 2008 when I was last there.

With the away-home-away-home situation, I'm inclined to think most fans will choose Slovenia or Macedonia and not both. If that happens the points threshhold will be lower than normal for those matches.

My logic being that going back and forth to the Balkans twice in a week is inconvenient and costly; not to mention many fans have already done Ljubljana and Skopje fairly recently.

If I was a betting man, I'd think Slovenia will be more popular than Macedonia what with Ljublana being the easier to reach.

Would be a different story if Slovenia and Macedonia were back to back. That would have been quite a trip between the two.

I'm inclined to think Switzerland will be the big one; somewhere we haven't played in more than 30 years.

My thinking too. Except I’m leaning the other way. Haven’t been to Macedonia since 2008. Missed the last one. They now have a massive stadium so no Dirk dodgy home tickets required.

Slovenia was right for points last time as they have a tiny stadium.

Re Switzerland, there’s always the fact that many of us stayed in Zurich when we played Liechtenstein. But, yes, have not played Switzerland in Switzerland for years.

Lufthansa rescheduled my flights from Edinburgh to Skopje, not doable now unfortunately (miss a connection). Scrambling about trying to to find an alternative, seriously thinking about just staying on from Slovenia and missing the home game

Mines were changed as well on the Thursday. Got them to change via FRA and VIE on same day.

We're in the same boat, probably same flights. Have cancelled & waiting on getting money back, then will look for alternatives.

Looks like they’re maybe scrapping the Skopje route. There was an article on bbc a few weeks back saying Lufthansa were looking at doing so.

Don’t fancy two stops as their alternative so  I’ve taken the refund as well and will look at other options.

In the same position regarding flights to Slovenia. Was going from Glasgow via Frankfurt but  they cancelled the Glasgow flight and changed it to Edinburgh which isn't a real problem.Think getting into Slovenia a bit later than originally planned and maybe a bit longer stop overs in Frankfurt but could have been worse.

My mates have plumped for the 2 stops arriving after midnight option, fuck that. Iv taken the refund and booked a return flight , will make a decision about the outward journey once I’m back from America

Lufthansa cancelled Glasgow flights which would have taken us to Ljubljana too.   Not many airlines are left on my good-guy list, but I'm supposing Trump/Iran/oil are at the root of this debacle.

Oanyhoo, we had booked via Expedia and they couldn't see the alternative flights we could see with our own eyes.   So dumped them and rebooked direct with... Lufthansa 😞

Expensive in the first place with what I'd thought was a safe option, but just as expensive on rebooking, plus the added bonus of extra travel hours, loss of half a day in Slovenia, driving to Edinburgh and back (sober), extra dug care, airport parking costs plus more oil burned.

[Plus hazard... Last time we parked up at an airport (Newcastle) our travel flask with coffee remnants had exploded in the boot by our return 😳 ]

Interesting following this thread, and different experiences.

For info, we're on Lufthansa for Slovenia, from Edinburgh via Frankfurt, Friday to Sunday. Not had any word of changes so far, and maybe reassuring if they're offering Glasgow passengers over to Edinburgh. Plenty time yet for them to mess us about.

For Skopje, we're via Istanbul on Turkish Airlines. Thursday to Monday, again from Edinburgh. And again, so far no indication of changes.

As said above, different threads for these games would be handy, given the emerging hassles.
