Gemmill78er Posted April 18 Posted April 18 I'm looking for a decent jazz club the night before the Morocco game. Nothing has stood out from searches (or nothing scheduled in terms of gigs) but any recommendations for Boston/Cambridge appreciated. Quote

Craig Fae Hamilton Posted April 20 Posted April 20 Monday 22nd June - BASEBALL! 6.40pm Miami Marlins V Texas Rangers No Major World Cup game on that night. £15.67 a Ticket. Can get there for $2.25. $5 Beers are sold at a couple of concessions in the Stadium. $3 Hot Dogs. I am priced in! SEC140 is where a few TA are sitting. Going by Scottish Football 'Phone Ins', the info below will allow you to Phone In after the game and not be one of the worst callers of the night....................... Simple Rules of Baseball Teams and Innings: Two teams of nine players take turns batting (offense) and fielding (defense). A full game consists of nine innings, with each team getting a chance to bat and field in each inning. The Objective: The offense tries to score runs by touching all four bases in order. The defense tries to stop them by recording three "outs". Scoring: A run is scored when a player successfully touches all bases and crosses home plate. A home run is when a ball is hit over the outfield fence, allowing the batter and all runners on base to score safely. Strikes and Outs (The "At-Bat"): A batter is out after three strikes (strikeout). A strike is a missed swing or a pitch within the strike zone that is not swung at. A foul ball (outside the white lines) counts as a strike, but cannot be the third strike. A batter gets to walk to first base (a walk) if the pitcher throws four pitches outside the strike zone (called balls). How the Defense Gets Outs: Fly Out: Catching a batted ball in the air before it touches the ground. Ground Out: Fielding a ground ball and throwing it to first base before the runner arrives. Tag Out: Touching a runner with the ball while they are not on a base. Force Out: Stepping on a base with the ball in hand before a runner arrives who was forced to move. Fielding Positions: Comprised of a pitcher (center), catcher (behind home plate), four infielders (1st base, 2nd base, 3rd base, shortstop), and three outfielders (left, center, right). YouTube +5 Basic Tactics to Enjoy the Game Understand the "Count": Keep track of the strikes and balls (e.g., 2-1, 1-2). If the count is 3-1 (3 balls, 1 strike), the batter has the advantage and expects a good pitch to hit. If the count is 1-2 (1 ball, 2 strikes), the pitcher has the advantage. Watch the Catcher's Signals: The catcher communicates with the pitcher to decide on the next pitch type (fastball, curveball, slider). Look for Stolen Bases: If a runner on base starts running toward the next base during a pitch, they are "stealing" a base. Identify the Defensive Shift: Fielders will often move to different positions based on where a specific batter typically hits the ball. The Infield Fly Rule: If a high pop-fly is hit in the infield with runners on base, the umpire may call the batter out immediately to prevent the defense from dropping the ball on purpose to get a "double play". Study.com +4 Tips for Enjoying a Game Pick a Team: Choosing a team to support makes the daily results feel meaningful. Enjoy the Atmosphere: Baseball is a "talking sport," meaning it is acceptable to chat, relax, and eat during the game. Focus on the Pitcher-Batter Duel: Recognize that every pitch is a mini-game; the pitcher tries to be unpredictable, and the batter tries to predict the pitch. Follow the Scoreboard: Check the "line score" to see runs, hits, and errors, which gives a quick overview of the game's flow. Quote

Deeklipse Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Don't laugh but but any runners might be interested that the Boston 10k, organised by the same folk as the Boston Marathon, is on Sunday 21st June. Actually surprised it's 'only' $80 to enter. https://www.baa.org/races/boston-10k/info-for-athletes/#pre-race-open-registration Quote
biffer Posted April 22 Posted April 22 I’ve been to quite a few baseball games. It’s very easy to understand, have a quick Google, and watch a few game highlights on the mlb website and you’ll follow it. It’s good fun when you’re with mates. MLB introduced a pitch clock last year to reduce the time between pitches, and games now average two and a half hours - thirty minutes less than previous. So it moves quicker than it used to. Only exception to that is if you have a game that goes to a lot of extra innings . Saw one like that in Toronto, went on till one am. note that the bars usually shut in the seventh inning. I don’t know what Fenway is like but a lot of grounds have beer at ridiculous prices, upwards of fourteen bucks for a Bud light. But there are a lot of bars round Fenway where it’s more likely to be $6/7/8. Quote

I remember having good intentions of doing one the morning of the game in Oslo a few years ago. I was still proclaiming that I was going to make it when I was stoating home on the Friday night in the wee small hours after many drinks. Needless to say, I didn't make it on the Saturday morning. AlfieMoon Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Boston Celtics papped oot the NBA playoffs in the early hours of today. Would’ve been good if the city had been full of hype while we were there if they’d go to the final. Not to be. Quote
