Rich NATA Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 Thinking of finishing off this years holiday allowance with a cheap city break. Looking at Skyscanner there are bargains to be had if you search from: GLA. EDI, LGW, BRS, etc... to 'Explore Everywhere' (£15 to fly to the Canary Islands?!?!) Not the cheapest, but I'm Considering Sofia and Tallin (Bulgaria and Estonia are two of the few countries I am yet to visit in Europe). Tallinn appears to be the better for touristy stuff (and dark-tourism) but I could get to a couple of matches if I go to Sofia (Slavia v Levski and Lokomotiv v Botev Plovdiv). Any of you been to Sofia or Tallinn? Thoughts on them? Quote
kumnio Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 Been to both, they are quite different places. Tallinn is the nicer place to visit but isn't very large, two nights would probably be enough to see all of it. It's a pretty clean walkable city, with decent pubs and restaurants. Everyone under about 30 speaks better English than us. Sofia has more things to see and do, the city centre is pretty big. But it's not very nice outside the city centre, very Soviet and still waiting on modernising. Saying that, it was about 14 years ago since I was there, so a lot will have changed hopefully. The biggest issue will be be the weather Id guess. It was pissing down in Tallinn for 3 days that I was there in December 2022, absolutely non stop, it was miserable as fuck. Depending on how far in advance you are booking, that would be the main factor in my decision. Quote
DoonTheSlope Posted December 3, 2025 Posted December 3, 2025 I haven’t been to Sofia but have been to Tallinn a couple of times and can’t say I’m overly keen on it. If I was you I’d take a train to Narva which shares a border with the Russian town of Ivangorod If you go at the right time you might even see the concert held on the banks of the Narva River that Russia puts on for the native Russians in Estonia Quote
