Seems unfair

'Craig Bellamy has been thwarted in his bid for Celtic forward Callum Osmand to represent Wales at senior level.

The 19-year-old was born in Jersey, which allowed him to represent Wales at both under-16 and under-17 level.

But a change in rules surrounding footballers born in the Channel Islands means he is now only available for England.'

I was hoping we could steal him. As he didn't have any full Caps for Wales yet.

Only eligible for England now.

Looks like he’s done his hamstring tonight as well! 🙈

Are they basically saying the Channel Islands are part of England all of a sudden; if so, how do they figure that?

You'd expect someone from the Channel Islands to have more of an affinity to England than, say, Scotland or Wales anyway, so I am not sure why this rule is even necessary.

The channel Islands are a crown dependency

In reality they belong to the king.

They are not English.

They have as much right to play for any of the 'home' nations.

I wonder how the isle of Man works?

I do agree that the people probably have more affinity to England tho.

I’ve lived in Guernsey for over 37 years and it’s certainly true that almost all true locals support England over any other home nation unless they have a parent from another country. Both my boys born in Guernsey are Scotland fans but pretty much all their mates support England apart from a few who have Irish, Scottish or Welsh parents. There are a few exceptions in that I know a couple of lads who support France and another local who has always supported Scotland. The reason for this rule change appears to be that England is geographically the closest home nation to Jersey and Guernsey, although they are both geographically closer to France.  Today Alex Scott was selected for the full England squad. I’m not sure if he actually has any English grandparent but I know that his grandfather on his Dad's side, who has lived in Guernsey for a long time, is from Dublin and I understand there is also Irish on his Mum’s side. Anyway he seems to be happy to represent England and good luck to him. His good friend, Maya Le Tissier currently plays for the lionesses. Remarkably they both played together for the same local team in Guernsey growing up

Is Tierney not from Isle of Man?
