Hertsscot Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 Not really sure what to post this under so started a new thread which may or may not take off. My wife supports Sheffield Wednesday. Unbelievable what is happening thereat present, really big historic club that is in a right mess, talk of players going in strike etc. Barry Bannen is currently without a contract. What is interesting is he's apparently been on about £22k a week, which gives you some idea of the wage difference between Scotland and England. No one outside the Old Firm would be able to afford those wages. Quote

Actually you've missed the point. The initial post was really about the disparity of wages between England and Scotland. I was surprised that Barry Bannen was on £22k a week and that average salary in League 1 was £7k a week. All which helps explain why we lose players from the domestic game. Quote
ThistleWhistle Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 The Championship is genuinely bonkers and you'd have be off your nut to invest in it. Stoke's wagebill was £15m last year - Aberdeen's apparently is c.£4m in comparison. However, Stoke are owned by Bet365 and have a fucking fortune to spend but aren't allowed spend it due to ffp. A few years back there was a stat that Bet365 spent more on sponsoring at Old Trafford than they did at Stoke because you have to evidence the return so they can't just sponsor the ground for £500m as example. They've just sold a 17 year old for £2m with add ons who probably has chance of playing for a decent Champions League club by his early 20s and would have probably got decent first team football at Stoke this season. As it's pure profit though under ffp it balances the books and forces Stoke's hand. Stoke and Newcastle must be the richest skint clubs in the world - farce really and not sustainable. Quote

Buying the best legal minds might be the answer Chelsea and Man City constantly cheat the system without reprisals. I’ll be very surprised if Man City lose any titles over the 115 charges against them Quote

Essentially it's ffp that's fucked Sheff Wed as their chairman spaffed a relative fortune to get promoted and when that failed his interest has dropped off a cliff the further the premier league got away from them. If you'd got half a billion knocking about and fancied playing real life Football Manager then they'd probably be at the top of the shopping list for a championship club looking to take up. If you look at it through FFP their debt isn't horrendous at apparently £50-£60m but turnover is £25m plus have to breakeven over 3 years then why would you bother? Quote

Chelsea sold 2 hotels and the women’s team to themselves for 300 million, Leicester escaped being penalised because they broke Premiership regulations but were in the championship by the time they got charged. FFP rules must have been done on the back of a fag packet. Your lawyers could be worth more points a season than a 100 million signing Quote

Malcolm Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 Money has ruined the game. Boring and predictable. That’s why nobody has won the spl outside the old firm for 40 years. Football ended over the course of the 90s for me. I will content myself with watching the Big match revisited on a Saturday morning where they are covering the 1975-76 season at the moment. great entertainment with proper wingers, tackling and characters…. Not big Jessie’s falling over every second minute. Quote

Och Aye Posted August 23, 2025 Posted August 23, 2025 Graham Potter could bore an arsehole in a wooden horse. He makes Gareth Southgate sound inspirational. Nuno's relationship at Forest seems to have hit rock bottom. Him or Big Ange would do for The Hammers. Quote

Ally Bongo Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 Obscene Liverpool have agreed a British transfer record fee of £125m to sign striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. Sources close to the deal have told BBC Sport that an agreement for the Sweden international to move to Anfield is now in place. Newcastle sources claim the deal could be worth as much as £130m with add-ons. Quote
