syecosse Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 May as well start the new season, seen a number of positive reports about Finlay Curtis for his performance against Club Brugge always positive to have hopes for a good winger, Josh Gentles also spoken about well. Quote
Tartan blood Posted July 8, 2025 Posted July 8, 2025 It's always exciting speculating about who is going to have a stand out season, or what youth is going to have a breakout season. Last year McTominay was the obvious stand out, and Doak and Miller both cemented themselves as internationals. My prediction for stand out season is Hickey. Youths are harder to predict since the SPFL teams are so reluctant to play them. Bailey Rice at Rangers, maybe? Dane Murray at Celtic, maybe? Ideally, Rory Wilson at Villa/loan (fingers crossed) Quote

I think Miller probably wasn't too far off the mark when he said he could be the best Scottish player in six months. I think he'll become undroppable. Some of his passing against Iceland, especially, was outstanding. Quote

McLean was never going to be more than a stop-gap, and I'm not convinced Ferguson is the answer in that position. So there is kind of an opening for Miller. Quote

He's another one that can go in there if we need a proper defensive option that's been sorely lacking in recent games. Quote
syecosse Posted July 8, 2025 Author Posted July 8, 2025 Just seen a post about has Brexit ruined Hamiltons next golden generation. Sums up all the Scots youth leaving. Ryan One 19 Sheff Utd, played Prem and Champ games, connected with a bigger move. Gave Forsyth 18 consistent in the Norwich first team squad at his age. Cormac Daly 18 captains Nottm forest u18s Josh Mcdonald 18 just signed a new 3 year deal at Leeds. Kerr Reynolds 16 keeper that has just joined Hull. Cole Hay 16 just joined Sheff United. Chris Condy 15 training with Fulham likely to sign. Incredible list that would have been incredible for Hamilton. Quote

No guarantee any of them make it at a high level. Quote

Sorry should have titled that possible however I am sure that Ryan One and Gabe Forsyth by the level they are playing at would likely of made Hamilton a lot more money now and be regulars add the fact Leeds have just giving Mcdonald a 3 year deal, could even argue Daly would be involved now also if they had stayed. Yeh I suppose theres a good chance they could have been decent players for Hamilton and then got decent money for them. You would hope most of them make it at a higher level than Scottish championship. Quote

I suppose it's promising that Russell Martin is giving young players like Curtis & Rice a chance. It's really up to them to impress enough to stay in the first team plans. Josh Gentles is Scottish born? I guess he's the lad I heard about on here previously that is currently playing for Wales. Quote

Rangers fans seem to have mixed opinions of him and Rangers seem to be reinforcing their midfield (e.g. signing Rothwell). I hope that being captain the other day is an indication that Martin sees him as being a regular. Quote

Barron is a cracking player with an unbelievable engine and a real competitive streak, allied with very good ability in most areas. I think he’ll improve a fair bit further. I don’t think Rangers have brought in anyone that threatens his position, but equally I think he will be too good for the SPFL in the not too distant future. Quote

I think Barron was brought in as a good squad player. A combination of things including Rangers being so poor, Raskins injury and Barron starting very well meant he probably played more than expected last year. I wouldnt be surprised to see him back as a squad player this year. He is a pretty decent player with room for improvement but I dont think he is on the same level either currently or potentially as our other main centre mids like Gilmour, McTominay, Ferguson, McGinn or Miller. If he gets game time for Rangers and continues to do well id have no issues with him being in Scotland squads. Quote
BookhouseBoys Posted July 9, 2025 Posted July 9, 2025 Saw Vancouver posting that Gauld is back doing some light training on the grass. Good news as I felt he made a difference to us during the nations league, the Croatia home game in particular. This injury has been a bit of a weird one. It seemed innocuous at first but he’s been out several months now. His coach has said that he’s expected to still play a part this season for them which, since MLS is a summer league, should hopefully mean he’s fit for some of the World Cup qualifiers. Quote

Barron is a good wee player who can improve, but I can't see him ever being a regular starter for Scotland or playing in a top league as to me, he doesn't seem strong or athletic enough. Quote

I couldn't disagree more. Players with his physical attributes and will to win are priceless. I think he would be a star in a foreign league. He's so quick in the tackle, I don't know the stats but the amount of times he wins the ball back for his team is really impressive. I believe Billy Dodds was raving about him the other day. I'm not saying he's a first pick but we've had such a turgid tempo of late and a player such as him could help reverse that. Quote

I am glad he is getting back, I believe we have yet to get the best of his free kicks and assists, which could be extremely useful and make a meaningful difference if he were to be given more minutes. BookhouseBoys Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 45mins for Doak yesterday for Liverpool. Sounds like he was maybe a bit rusty after his injury but still should have had a penalty and clocked a really good assist, making up for an error by chasing down the defender, winning the ball back and getting it across to Gakpo. I think he could do with either a loan or permanent signing to a mid-table EPL side so that he can get more regular minutes and hopefully he’ll have an injury free season this time around. Quote
