As described. Have a flight via Vienna booked on the way back from Copenhagen and it looks doable from there. I've planned a route and have the time off booked but still 50/50

From what the handful of Northern Ireland fans who went across said, its not really worth it..... stadium is pretty much walled off right around its whole perimeter, and Zalaegerszeg is VERY sleepy, that you just do not both looking for a pub to watch the game on tv and look to getting back to Budapest at the first chance

That's quite good feedback to be fair. I'm not against going to shite places but even I'm questioning it myself. From what I saw there was 1 sports pub full of pool tables and no telly so it could end up being a laptop effort. Will think more on it

We were planning a few nights in Budapest on the way home from Copenhagen anyway, so a wee trip to Zalaegerszeg looks on the cards. Could be a hidden gem could be utter shite 🤷‍♂️, it has pubs so we’ll probably be fine. Hopefully getting tickets for Hungary v Portugal in Budapest on the Tuesday night then a direct flight back to Edinburgh the next day. Don’t have any ridiculous schemes planned for gaining entrance to the Scotland game (yet) 😀

Would have to be a heavy duty completist to be anywhere near this game.If your determined to chuck your money away then i would be happy for you to chuck it my way.Seriously guys...save your cash for something worthwhile.Would be a serious waste of time,effort and money.🙄

Smallest places I've stayed whilst following Scotland have been Trnava (pop: 70'000) and Citti di San Marino (pop: 4000).

Three nights in Trnava (midweek IIRC) and a couple of nights in San Marino - One of which was a Sunday.  

Some homework... Some luck... Some advice from locals... Always managed to find a cracking night out.

It’s not my first rodeo, i always message/email hotels and bars to get local info. My usual gambit being if you had the night off were would you be drinking/eating, got no interest in the “we’ll be coming” pubs

I came upon this drum a few years back during an Austro Hungarian jaunt I was on. It was a lovely wee toon

Travelling to the back of beyond though purely just because Scotland are playing behind closed doors in the place so you can get pished in a boozer is proper wanky though

A small number of people were doing it under similar circumstances for the likes of Czech Republic and Serbia away, which was probably less advisable at the time.

I was expecting some comments on being mad for thinking of doing it but that's life. It's far better than posting on the FB page though.

The purpose of the thread was to assess whether others may consider being wanky in a boozer for it. I'm sure it can be done.

Of course it's everybodys choice whether to go to Hungary but i'm honestly just interested to know why anybody would contemplate going that distance to sit in a pub with a Scotland shirt on.What do you actually get out of it apart from a smaller bank balance.Just seems totally pointless.Is it just a case of being able to say...i was there?Would be interested to hear the mindset of anybody that is going about why they are .

As i said earlier jog on if that's what you want.Honestly though i am struggling to understand why anyone would in anyway fancy going to by all accounts what is a quiet town to sit in a pub and maybe see the game.Would be the ultimate folly if you ended up not seeing the game at all.Funny right enough.

Same here.Was interested to hear why they feel the need to go to Hungary for no obvious reason.Football or otherwise.Think it is just the old " i was there " carry on.Hope it's a bit more fun or interesting place than people who have been there have said.

I love watching Scotland and I love Travel. I also do both on a budget.

As such, when I saw that we could travel back to Glasgow from Copenhagen via Budapest ALOT cheaper than a direct flight to Glasgow. That was that. Spend 3 days seeing Budapest. Watch Belarus v Scotland, fly back to Glasgow on the Tuesday. I booked really late, only a couple of weeks ago and the Flights home were £69 Total. £89 for 3 days Digs in Budapest and the trip was not much more expensive than a flight back to Glasgow from Copenhagen (£130).

So, we are in Hungary for the game by chance. But won't be travelling to where the game is. Being there and being unable to get in to watch the game although you would try is just going to bring a whole new level of frustration to a Scotland trip! Add to that you are in a very quiet town, possibly not seeing the game at all, probably huddled round a wee telly watching it, being faced with having to get back to the Airport the next day. It's quite possibly a horrific idea!

On the Monday we will do they Baths in Budapest, a very chilled last day of our trip. Then get to the SCOTTISH PUB in Budapest early doors to watch the game. Fly back on the Tuesday. Bring It On! If anybody is interested, here is the pub we will be in Budapest:

If you were trying to blag your way into the ground, you'd need to do some work well in advance to get a press pass or similar. During covid there were regularly 100's of people at these closed doors games so i suppose it is possible. It's also amazing how far a cash bribe still goes in this day and age.

From the looks of things, there is only a skeleton media presence from Scotland across Alan Pattullo from the Scotsman and a couple of guys from the Sun (only Alan has actually reported from inside the stadium, while the Sun seem to be out interviewing the hand full of fans across).

Unless accredited, press passes are next to impossible to get a hold of.

I wonder how much these 6 paid to get in the ground ! Lol
