Caught a snippet at half time but did they mention Alistair Johnstone should have had a straight red?ย

Yip. Weโ€™d still have shat it mind you.ย

My take on the weekend games at the top.

Motherwell were the better side in the 1st half after Shanklands miss. Hearts better in the 2nd half and should have had a penalty. Motherwell player attempts to step across Hearts player to prevent him getting to the ball and ends up standing on his foot. Wasnt going towards the ball and once refered to VAR I have no idea how the ref is justifying that. It cant be not enough contact as he literally stands on his foot and the legs collide aswell. Hearts player makes the most of it with his rolls but thats irrelevent. What I can say is that once refered to the monitor there is zero chance a ref is not giving the penalty in a title run in for either of the old firm.

Motherwell also had a shout for a penalty. Couple if differences for me from the Hearts one. Firstly there was minimal if any contact and secondly wasnt referred to the monitor. Falls into the category of not being enough to overturn on field decision for me.

Todays game followed most Old firm games lately. Rangers started better and got the first goal only to fall off a cliff. Celtic played better football and were worthy winners. McGowan pass for the 1st was quality. Blocking the GK not a live issue and correct to allow goal to stand.ย

I totally disagree with the studio about Johnstone on Moore. He gets the ball cleanly and even though there was abit of a follow through it wasnt particuarly high or aggressive. At the time I thought a yellow was harsh but on 2nd viewing just about right. Never a red though.

I think pundits have lost the plot in this country. People losing their shit because a dive encouraged by a wee bit of contact isnโ€™t given or in the case of Arsenal in the CL last week one not given out of three.

Letโ€™s have it right here, Kyziridis dives after feeling a wee bit of contact on his foot then Maswanhise does the same after getting a slight kick below the knee. Were either impeded? No. Play on. Boyd and McFadden are utter fannies!

You need to go watch that again and watch it and pretend Kyziridis plays for your team. Mashwanise connects with his foot, it clearly deflects the movement of his foot and I think it may have made his foot hit his standing leg too (although difficult to tell), that, anywhere else on the pitch IS a foul. The other one, earlier on, again a clear handball with the arm moving TO the ball. Both absolute stonewall penalties and we ALL know if that had have been either of the ugly sisters they would 100% have been given. The fact that the VAR team saw fit to stop the game says enough, the ref has either objected to being challenged (arrogant c***) or he's deliberately ignored it. And that is just 2 of the incidents in that game, time after time we saw ridiculous decisions, the ref couldn't wait to break play up, give freekicks, he was painfully inconsistent and it looked to me that he was trying to make sure that game finished a draw. Shocking.ย ย

That Celtic boy today went over the ball and caught the rangers player's ankle, if that had have been a Hearts player there is no doubt WHATSOEVER that he'd have been given a straight red. This is the SHIT we have to deal with constantly and have for a very long time, the standard of refereeing is SO poor and possibly deliberate, it is VERY rare that we walk away from any game saying "the ref had a good game", it's always "that fkin ref was a disgrace". Through this season Hearts have beaten the one cheek of the erse on 5 occasions? I think, and each time it has been DESPITE the officials.ย
ย
I am more angry about the ref from yesterday than anything else but Hearts can still win it, and Christ I hope they do because Scottish football really needs a HUGE shake up and this shit needs to stop. Fucking sick of it. ย ย

Listen @Bzzzzย you seem like a decent guy and I get that fans at all three clubs are a bit emotive right now, butโ€ฆโ€ฆ. I canโ€™t be doing with this rush to critique officials after a result goes against you. Look at yourselves first. Hearts got what they deserved at Fir Parkโ€ฆ.a draw. We got what we deserved today, the win.ย

I could list umpteen decisions that have gone against Celtic over this season or recently but you wouldnโ€™t be interested as youโ€™re in full grievance mode. I canโ€™t be bothered with that and I hear it from some of my own as well. The truth is the officiating varies between not very good and appallingly bad every week.ย
ย

For some perspective why not study DSโ€™s post above, a guy with no skin in the game. The only thing I donโ€™t agree with him on is the Hearts pen claim. I saw clearer footage this morning which shows minimal contact and maximum embellishment from Kyziridis so the ref was right imo. Itโ€™s very similar to the Arsenal one v Atleti in the CL last week. Eze gets his sock tickled by the defender and the ref buys the dive. Upon further inspection contact is minimal so no pen. Cue all the English pundits losing their shit, alleging corruption and all sorts levelled at Simeone! Get a grip!

There are still two very difficult games to go for both teams here and you may well still might get your dream title @Bzzzz. But do me a favour and leave the diddy club corruption theories to others.

This is why I quantified it by saying it's not just because of 1 game, it's constant and it's shit. I understand it's a tough job and fuck knows I couldn't do it but as an observer of football over many years, it is just absolutely shite in Scotland. VAR with the back up of a room of fowk that are qualified and able to go over things in real time in a safe space, there should be WAY less mistakes, sadly the human element is stil causing the issues. I just cannot understand how any ref could look at the Kyziridis incident and not see clearly that that WAS a clear foul. As I say, it's irrelevant, he doesn't need to clean him out he just needs to impede his movement enough to stop his intended movement, how many times have we seen a player run across the back of another brushing a midge's bawhair and causing him to trip? another example of pish poor refereeing, this happened twice last night, first time Motherwell got a freekick, second time Hearts didn't give a freekick and Mashwanise then went on to his pen claim incident.ย
I stand by my first post on this, I get the stress but and the heightened tensions but the ref yesterday was a fucking disgrace.ย ย

Heโ€™s not a ref I rate but if you think he cost Hearts two points last night youโ€™re looking at the wrong animal. Good luck if you get Calum Scott, ย Ryan Lee or Duncan Nicolson on Wednesday! ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Anyway great performance from Celtic today. I thought Chermitti terrorised us early on but either side of half time we looked like the old Celtic and could easily have scored 4 or 5. I still donโ€™t have a lot of faith in this team but I totally believe in Martin Oโ€™Neil. Even today he acknowledged his selection fuck up by subbing McCowan at half time. Whatever happens over the next week his legend will endure at Celtic Park.

Do you not think McGowan played well today? He was the only player in the 1st half looking capable of unlocking the Rangers defence which he did on a couple of occasions including the 1st goal.

I dont rate him amazingly highly in terms of a regular Celtic starter but he is perfect for the squad role and does have quality.

When ive watched the recent old firm games I cant work out if Celtic are just the better footballing team and that comes to the fore or if Rangers cant or wont keep up the intensity which makes them dangerous and often gets them in front.

For sure he played a couple of great passes in behind the Rangers defence. However, from memory he got sacked on the ball about 6 times in possession, one of which led to the first goal, thatโ€™ll be why MON hooked him at ht. To be fair to him heโ€™s being played out of position out there but he shouldnโ€™t be anything more than a squad player.

Our lack of physicality has caused us problems against both Rangers & Hearts this season. In the case of Rangers they donโ€™t have the quality or depth to sustain it and we end up gaining control of the midfield at some point. When we do that and quicken the tempo they canโ€™t handle it. Unfortunately it hasnโ€™t happened often enough this season for a variety of reasons. If you were looking for excuses for us you could point to the long term absence of CCV, Jota & AJ to name a few, but given the shambolic performance of the board Iโ€™m not of a mind to do that.

Apparently VAR didn't see the best angle of the Johnston tackle. Another angle which is the only one I've seen shows the tackle to be a sending off IMO. Apparently This angle wasn't shown till half time

That's from ref watch on sky

I don' think he's chosen his words very well there.ย  I assume what he means is that Sky didn't show the angle in question till HT.ย  Surely to God for the money that is being spent on VAR they have all the angles instantaneously?ย  If not we're as well packing it in as what's the point?!

No argument here, it's unprofessional as fuck.

Apologies not Scottish football but VAR just needs scrapping. Here's a couple of fouls (which were ignored) committed by Arsenal players in the same phase of play before the West Ham goal was ruled out.

VAR is a shit show, been handled terribly by English and Scottish refs

Re Celtic. Considering the stutter they had under Nancy๐Ÿคฃ, their points total will still be impressive if they win the league and they will be in the Scottish cup final.ย

They had 92 points last season and will end on 82 should they win the league with two more wins.

I watched that at the time, I don't think they were ignored, I think it was deemed that the foul on the Arsenal keeper happened first therefore the subsequent fouls by the Arsenal players were irrelevant, or at least that's what I picked up from Sky.

Well it might have been a bit easier to get 3 points if the ref was actually giving correct decisions, but in the end we didn't get a 2nd goal.ย

We need to sort out our business midweek, but all going to expectation the game on Sat will be a belter. 2 teams going head to head with nothing to lose and everything to win. I am sure all the Celtic fans will be expecting, we won't be going along to watch this pass us by.ย
