Really good effort by Hibs. Tonight was a classic example of what happens when you get tired legs and minds. Last 20 mins of normal time and then extra time Hibs just didnt have the composure to build attacks which came purely from team mates not having the legs to keep movement off the ball going. Then in the few moments when things broke for them they repeatedly made tired decisions.

Really good showing though and makes a difference from some years gone past.

Do they drop into the Conference league play offs now?

Great effort last night unfortunately the longer the game went on their class started to show, our subs made us weaker their’s made them stronger. Didn’t fancy us on penalties after they brought on the jolly green giant in anticipation so at least we never had to suffer that pain. Still a great night regardless

Class. As I get aulder I think it’s no about the winning or losing, it’s who you’re watching the game with 👍🏼

Couldn't agree more. Made sure I went to hampden to watch Aberdeen lift the cup with my cousin whom I used to take to games when he was younger. We both live away from Scotland now but we decided we had to go to this game and we went together. A great feeling

The Celtic board are jammy bastards!
Worst possible draw for the huns and a piss easy one for us. (Although no doubt we’ll make a 5 course dinner of it as usual)

Benfica would have been much a worse draw for us.

If I'm reading this correctly, if Rangers lose to Plzen then they go into the Europa League. If they beat Plzen then they go into the Europa League. Is that right? UEFA logic at it's best.

If they beat Plzen they're guaranteed Europa League, but are through to the Champions League playoff round.

Aye, but when they lose that, which they will, do they also go into the Europa League. So they might as well just lose to Plzen and save themselves a couple games.

If we lose in this round or the next round we drop in to the Europa groups. Only difference in winning (other than the obvious one of still having the possibility of qualifying for the UCL) is an additional almost £5M in prize money for beating Plzen.

Ok, that convinces me that it's worth putting in the effort. Money talks. 😂

Games coming thick and fast now with Rangers at home to Viktoria Plzen tonight and Hibs & United away to Partizan Belgrade and Rapid Vienna respectively on Thursday.

Even with out domestic struggles last season I'd have fancied our chances in a game like tonight given our European performances over the last few seasons but still have no clue what to expect from this new set up and remains to be seen what impact Martin's filleting of them after the Motherwell game will have.

The United and Hibs games are reminiscent of old school European ties of the 80s.  Would be good if one or both could get through and have at least one more team as well as Aberdeen in the group stages (outside the OF).

The Rangers match this evening is on BBC Scotland. Think it was a late pick up as when I looked yesterday the info was saying no broadcast details. BBC Scotland also showing Dundee United on Thursday.

In the 80s there was always the confidence the Dundee United could beat any team on their day. They somehow managed to be both stylish and streetwise in European terms, despite being a 'provincial' club of mostly home grown players.

I just checked and for example their 2-0 European Cup* win over Roma was an all-Scottish side, with at least half a dozen Scottish internationals. When they beat Barcelona home and away in 1987, they had even more, maybe 8-10 internationals!

* For younger viewers, the ‘European Cup’ was the elite tournament of its day, like a sort of Champions’ League - but just for actual Champions.

Half of them are probably still under contract.

Victoria Principal getting a doing here.

I think I had that dream as a lad!

2-0 Rangers at HT. Another good goal from Gassama, his 3rd in 3 European games, and a bit of a soft penalty converted by Dessers. Pretty good performance from Rangers, night and day from Saturday.

Much better performance, balance of team looks so much better. Cameron, Gasamma in particular adding a bit of energy and looking to be positive. Antman an upgrade on Dowell and Dessers providing more threat and physicality than Danilo.

Would have taken 3-0 before the game but slightly disappointed we didn’t properly kill the tie off after being 3 up after 50 minutes. Gassama and Antman both looked excellent. Plzen very, very poor.

Martin likes his defenders to invite attackers to commit before they releasing the pass. Makes for some heart stopping moments. Really solid performance. Cameron really impressed.

I was a bit perturbed by his post match praise of Souttar waiting until the last nanosecond before releasing the ball. It's a long time since I coached a team but I'm not sure that I'd be telling my players to do that!

From a Scotland point of view I worry about Barron. He's been in the latest squad but I'm not sure how much game time he's going to get.
