See if Labour had fielded a semi-decent candidate, or even a poor candidate who was at least capable of stringing a sentence together, then okay, but their candidate was a fucking buffoon; an inarticulate, slevering oaf so bad they deliberately kept him from hustings and public meetings and whose only notable interview was an absolute car crash. Yet people looked at him and thought, aye, he's the best person to represent us?? Fucking hell 🤯 Quote

The indy vote is basically split between labour and SNP in the west of Scotland and thats opening the door for the unionist vote to mostly get behind one party. Quote

King Of Paisley Posted June 6, 2025 Posted June 6, 2025 Swinney has to go and go now. One of the worst results ever. Instead of attacking Labour on winter fuel payments, the betrayal of Grangemouth and the WASPI women, that clueless idiot was more interested in stopping Farage. And given BNP lite won 26% of the vote, a fat lot of good that did. Seriously thinking of jacking my SNP membership tomorrow. Sick to the back teeth of the lot of them. That lot need fumigated and got tid of the Sturgeon cabal thats infesting the SNP, Fiona Robertson in particular. Genuinely fear for the future of this country. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that Sarwar could be FM next year Quote

Swinney needs to go and few others need to go with him. If tonight is anything to go by though that decision might be taken for them next year! Katy Loudon also needs find something else to do the next time there's a by-election. Quote

Fucking Labour, a party who are implementing cuts even the Tories wouldn't have attempted; who are running a shambles of a government down south; who have flip-flopped and backtracked since almost the moment they were elected; whose candidate for this by-election was so bad at one point I wondered if he was just a paper candidate - people looked at them and thought, aye, they'll sort things out?? I honestly thought they'd given up on winning the seat and were looking at nothing more than damage limitation. No wonder the BBC were chipper during their coverage. Quote

Maybe it's best snp take a big hit at the 2026 Scottish elections, then come back strong in 2030 with a reform party in charge at Westminster. If polls continue to be above 50 percent then they can start to campaign on the idea of indy ref2 and giving ppl one last shot at independence. Make it a last chance saloon type plea to the Scottish ppl. If the ppl of Scotland won't vote for it by then it's probably never going to happen and it would best to give up for a generation or two at least. Quote

Maybe I'm oversimplifying it but is this result more about folk giving Labour a turn again instead of the incumbent party and Tories turning to Reform? Not sure how that would translate in a normal election especially with it being fairly close between the 3. Edited June 6, 2025 by StirlingEgg Quote

As well as a chunk of the 2021 SNP voters going to Labour, there must be a fair few to Reform as well. Quote

hampden_loon2878 Posted June 6, 2025 Posted June 6, 2025 forbes should have been installed as FM, she would have chased out all the sturgeon infestation,,, we are fucked for independence for the foreseeable, time for albe and the snp to get their differences out of the way. to me macaskill is the most competent indy politician out there.sorry guys but labour have a year more to fuck things up along with the snp, reform have a year to play on the immigration crisis, there is a real chance things could end up worse than that byelection Quote

The SNP vote nationally, going by polls is 11% above Labour nationally. Hamilton does have a lot of Labour support in it and historically has always been there or thereabouts. That being the case and that many protest voters protesting at the party in power flung their vote Labour's way rather than vote Reform who hoovered up much of the Tory vote. Quote
