Silversand Posted March 18, 2025 Posted March 18, 2025 Everything Scotland tweeting that the Greeks have stated that all WC matches to be played in the Georgios Karaiskakis stadium, Piraeus, Athens Quote
Andy of Lochcarron Posted March 22, 2025 Posted March 22, 2025 It is a poor stadium, with restricted views for away fans nearer the main stand corner flag high up in the stand, we were kept back for roughly 50 mins after match finished & exits were blocked which meant there was nae access for the toilets - the netting from the stand roof to the ground is also a pain in the erse - the away section is like being caged in - just hope somehow Greeks change their mind & want a bigger crowd for World Cup game in November & change it to the Olympic stadium Quote
Rich NATA Posted March 22, 2025 Posted March 22, 2025 I visited the AEK Athens stadium museum and the staff there said Olympiacos had signed a contract with the Greek FA to host ALL matches this year. The billionaire owner of AEK insisted on €23'000 to host matches. Olympiacos didn't want anything, apparently. Quote
TDYER63 Posted March 23, 2025 Posted March 23, 2025 The view for those of us in the home end was fine 😗 And nothing could be worse than the view in the away end in the stadium in Lisbon last year. That was the worst ever. The 50 mins we were kept in at the end was ridiculous right enough. Despite being in the home end the entire section was full of Scottish fans so we were kept back too. However the transport after the game was fantastic. We were in our apartment 30 mins after getting out the stadium due to the metro being right at the ground, train arrived immediately and only a 20 min transfer time into Athens. All in all it would have been no worse than leaving Hampden at the final whistle into Glasgow , possibly quicker . The Piraeus marina was lovely to have a drink and something to eat before the game and only 15 mins walk to the stadium along a scenic route. I would obviously prefer to get away end tickets so a bigger stadium would be good, but I have absolutely no problem sacrificing the points for the same stadium as we were right beside the official Scotland fans. As an aside, I loved Athens and would happily go back. I noticed that we flew over the Piraeus area when leaving Athens. Managed to grab a quick picture . Apologies for shit technology but the bottom 2 circle is the main marina area , the middle was a lovely area with rows of restaurant/bars with glass fronts to get a full view of the sea, and the top is the stadium. Bzzzz Posted April 15, 2025 Posted April 15, 2025 Echo the comments above, not the best experience ever as an away fan, Athens was awesome tho, totally made up for it! Quote
