exile Posted May 13, 2025 Posted May 13, 2025 I totally see the point about Gilmour sometimes passing back or sideways. Some say it would be good for him to add more goals to his game. Maybe they/we should play him as striker? Quote

A midfielder should not be judged on goal contributions Lobotka is the key midfielder for Napoli. They wouldn't be the same team without him. In six seasons with Napoli he's scored twice and had three assists Dunga, Deschamps, Kante, Lahm, etc, rarely contributed with goals. Locatello, Jorgino, De Jong, don't rack up massive goal contributions. Yet, the aforementioned player are/were vital to their team. Gilmour is a deep-laying playmaker. He takes the ball off the defenders and he sets the temp. He's metronomic. Teams need players like that. England lost two European Championship finals because they didn't have one and their opposition did (Rodri and Tchouaméni). Gilmour is never going to assist or score many. That's fine. Fans have a habit of dismissing what a player contributes and focusing on what they don't. Some Jabroni just suggested Gilmour up front. Well, assuming that that's a legit suggestion: No. I sometimes wonder how many people here watch football. If it's a snarky comment: Apparently, there's another mind I reside in, free of rent Passive aggressive narsissm Seek help ye rocket Quote

McTeeko Posted May 18, 2025 Posted May 18, 2025 They’re no playing well at all here Napoli but it’s now 2-2 at the San Siro. A late winner here will seal the title for Napoli…… Quote
McTeeko Posted May 18, 2025 Posted May 18, 2025 4 minutes ago, AtVsfan said: No. A winner for Napoli will put them at 81. With 1 match to go. Theoretically, it could end with 81 points for both clubs. Which would lead to a playoff match to decide the league. Penalty to Napoli. Aye you’re right. Was getting too excited there. No pen. Foul in the build up. Harsh. Quote
McTeeko Posted May 18, 2025 Posted May 18, 2025 They still haven’t decided when the last fixtures will even be! Brillant stuff tonight. It’s amazing how much a wee bit Scottish involvement gets you! 🏴 Quote
mccaughey85 Posted May 19, 2025 Posted May 19, 2025 Football should work like American sports. Clock should be on a countdown timer with it stopping every time it's out of play or a foul is committed etc. Quote

That would mean an extra 35 minutes and 48 seconds would be added per match. Players and managers complain about too much football as it is. I don't think they'd be happy about players playing another 13+hours per league season. Add in cups, foreign and domestic, as well as internationals. Players would die. Besides, NBA is 48 minutes, NHL and NFL are 60 minutes. With multiple sub ins and outs, as well as special teams, defensive and offensive units, sin bins, etc. It's not applicable; plus with the deaths. Eh? Match time would obviously be shortened. Maybe down to 60mins gametime or ball in play as you put it. Thought that would be obvious. Edited May 19, 2025 by mccaughey85 Quote

Absorbing stuff. Brilliant drama. The team who wins it will truly deserve it. Just hope it's Napoli. Agreed. Had a chance of tickets for Friday but can't make it due to prior engagement. Gutted. vanderark14 Posted May 20, 2025 Posted May 20, 2025 Seems odd to have the final matches of the season spread over three days. Is there any reason for it? Quote

I think it is on the off chance that Napoli lose and Inter draw their latch matches so they need a play off and can only fit it in before the European Cup final. On a wider scale, only matches with teams that directly affect with each other need to play at the same time. So championship contenders have to play at same time European places and relegation places the same. Quote

Rich NATA Posted May 20, 2025 Posted May 20, 2025 Napoli 1-0 (Gilmour) ? Napoli 1-0 (McTominay) ? Napoli 2-0 (Gilmour, McTominay) Really quite excited about this. Desperate for Napoli to win. Be quite something if Napoli won and Scott or wee Billy were the hero of the night. Quote
exile Posted May 20, 2025 Posted May 20, 2025 I was trying to think of the last time or previous times a Scottish player was in a continental league-winning team. I got as far as John Collins (Monaco, 1997) and Steve Archibald (Barcelona, 1985). Famously Paul Lambert won the Champions League with Borussia Dortmund (1997) but he didn't win the Bundesliga title with them. Quote
bdgsct Posted May 20, 2025 Posted May 20, 2025 Got a ticket in the end - in lower section of Curva A, took a punt at £200 before the Parma game. Could be epic. Thanks for the advice on tickets. Quote

Time for wee Billy to step into the spotlight... 1-0, top corner from the edge of the box. Quote
exile Posted May 21, 2025 Posted May 21, 2025 If I'm following this right, there are 9 permutations of results, of which 6 would see Napoli champions, 2 would see Inter champions and 1 would see a play-off. If it hadn't been for Lazio's 90th minute equaliser on Sunday, the situation would have been reversed. Not sure what the odds are on the individual games, but Como are 10th and Cagliari 14th; Como are at home, though it's a relatively local game for Inter so presumably not too daunting an away fixture.
