McTominay has exceeded all expectations – already scoring 10+ goals. Even if he had managed that playing for (say) Bologna or Torino that would have been great of itself, but to be in pole position for winning the league is extra special. I see that Talksport article mentions equalling Denis Law scoring 11 goals in a season, and also compares favourably with Joe Jordan and Graeme Souness in Italy - though I see Souness did win silverware, and that front is not clinched yet. Burj_Alba Posted April 29, 2025 Posted April 29, 2025 Not just the goals but his overall play. Conte has him worked out and uses him to Scott's and the teams benefit. In those Napoli matches he is often found supporting the defensive midfielders ( Billy or Lobotka) and then in an instant, supporting Lukaku and other strikers. Magnificent stamina and 100% effort which I am sure Napoli fans appreciate just as much as the goals and assists. Top man, happy we have him. Hopefully 100+ caps. Quote

I saw the 2nd half against Torino & he was box to box. At the end of the game they had a list of most distance covered, and McTominay was top on 12.5km covered. As you say, he has some stamina. Guest Posted April 29, 2025 Posted April 29, 2025 I'm not surprised people are touting him as a number 9 for Scotland. That Che Adams miss pretty much sums him up when it comes to half chances in front of goal. However, if it were all about finishing I'd put Shankland in there instead of any of our other strikers as McTominay is offers too much in other areas. Quote

Big Ramy 1314 Posted April 29, 2025 Author Posted April 29, 2025 Just reading on more than one site that Real Madrid are going to make a move for McTominay in the summer... Get to fuck with your money and all the pathetic nonsense RM... If this is true, I hope he stays at Napoli, the man could become a legend and the Napoli fans adore him. Also read some Napoli fans have adopted wearing kilts !!! 😂😂🏴🏴 Quote

He's so effective for Napoli as the shape suits him perfectly. He covers so much ground that he plays as an 8 and a 10 in one. I can't help but think Clarke doesn't get the best out of our best players by playing a shape that doesn't suit or a playing players slightly out of their best position. You could argue mcginn, Ferguson, Christie, Tierney haven't found a settled position and the style of play doesn't suit Gilmour's game. Quote

It's not like he'd be moving to Napoli's rivals. Opportunity to win the title in another major league, and possibly the Champions League, alongside some of the best players in the world. I'd paraphrase the late great Gordon McQueen here. 99% of footballers want to play for Real Madrid, the rest are liars. Quote

Rich NATA Posted April 29, 2025 Posted April 29, 2025 I've no doubt McTominay is loving Napoli and Napoli are loving him, but there are (IMO) two clubs (and only two clubs) who no player can resist... Barcelona and Real Madrid. Even if players are at the likes of Liverpool, Bayern, AC Milan, PSG, etc... Barcelona and Real Madrid seem to to irresistible. Quote

Professional players are flexible. McTominay was a midfielder when he played a dozen or so matches at centerback. Tonighy Lewis-Skelly is a midfielder. Playing at left back. Jurrien Timber is a centerback. Playing at right back. Scott McTominay is a no 8. Doesn't mean he's not flexible. You remind me of an ex partner.....she was very passive aggressive and used used to make shit up so in her head she was right and everyone else was wrong too. Quote

Its inevitable when a midfielder hits double figures and our main striker has scored less in the same league, however McTominay scored this many because of where he plays. Moving him up top for an entire match would dilute what he can do, just like it did when he played in defence and as DM. He is perfect where he is. on another note, I think Shankland is lucky we have a shortage of strikers because he isn't actually that good. Quote

I think Shankland is a much better finisher than Adams and Dykes. Adams is a better footballer than Shankland which is why he's playing at a better level. To be clear, I wouldn't propose putting McTominay in as a striker but he with many accounts is not wrong that the two he got in his last game for Napoli were strikers' goals. Quote
