Christie is first pick in that position for Bournemouth who are 7th in the EPL. Probably in the best club form of his career. Barron is not starting for Rangers.

You could try Christie in there too, I’d like to see that.
Back to Napoli and McTominay, I don’t think their midfield is well balanced, and I think that’s one of the reasons their not scoring enough. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Conte looks to add in that area of the pitch. Personally, I’d try a midfield 3 of

               Lobotka

McTominay.          Gilmour

See if that gives the midfield more of an attacking threat. Gilmour is more than capable of splitting defences with his passing and vision. I also think that’s his best position, as a free roaming playmaker.
It would also be nice to see McTominay play in his natural position with the proper midfield around him.

Mctominays natural position. Now you’re having a laugh.

You still think he’s a centre-half?

Because of the PSR rules, as well as the money wasted by Manchester United managers in the past, they were pretty much forced to sell him.

Eric ten Hag wanted to keep him. But as I said, they had to sell. Pretty much why Rashford will be sold and probably Garnacho.

What a waste.. I have read so many Man U fans are gutted he left. Money talks as usual. Seems like McTominay was the winner in this move. He is loved at Napoli and what a player he is.. Very happy for him from a Scotland point of view..  Wee Gilmour came on the 89 minute. Cheers for the info mate. I thought all along Thommo was not fitting into the Manu system which surprised me...

Rashford will be sold because he doesn’t seem to give a toss when he plays.

Always suspected the clamor from Man United fans who thought he was sh!t and not good enough for them were absolutely mental - he essentially was having to do the running or 3-4 players covering so much ground as he seemed to be continually covering for wingers not tracking, Casemiro legs going and whatever mood Fernandes was in.

It wasn't until Scotland played him where he's meant to play that fully appreciated what a beast he is though - Napoli have gotten an absolute bargain!

Just highlights the mess Man U are in that it would cost x times over what they sold him for to even sniff a replacement of similar quality.  They can't even bring someone through to replace him as they'd have to sell them to balance the books .

Funny. McTominay earned Manchester United 14 points singlehandedly last season. Tack those points onto this season's haul and they're joint 4th with Manchester City.

No he didn't, you fuckin lunatic! 😆

"single-handedly"

Any chance we could pay him as an outright striker? Fuck can he hit a ball, and he is accurate.. Just saying like. 2 more goals today for Napoli .. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

He's fine where he his coming from midfield and scoring goals. He's like a Frank lampard this season bur he isn't an out and out number 9. I don't think he would be as effective playing in the same role as che Adams with his back to goal.

9 goals for Torino this season in a mid table side.

McTominay has 9 in a team top of the table.

I know one is a striker and one is an attacking midfielder but Adams definitely isn't dugshit.

Agreed. If you look at a lot of his goals they come from him making late runs into the box and latch on to a cross or ball running loose to him - that is his strength. Playing further upfield as a striker negates that threat and strength.

It's what I'd do.

2 goals and and a post away from a hat trick.

We need someone up front who doesn't turn into jelly when in front of goals. Since all our strikers are Gummy men, I'd try McTominay as a no 9.

Nothing to lose. We've tried every other variable.

Fair play, maybe I over reacted.. I just meant he offers Scotland next to nothing, we need a proper striker !!!

extremely harsh, he may not score many but he works extremely hard to bring the other scorers like Mcginn and Mctominay into the action.

I think in just fed up with not having a poacher VA. You run around all you want, but putting the ball in the back of the net is what matters. I don't rate him, just my opinion...

Exactly this. Some people think the ability to score goals means you could play up front. How many of McToms goals come from already being in the box and finding a yard of space. Very few. He would be a threat from headers like his one yesterday but his strength is arriving late, where the defenders are dealing with the forwards and he has got away from the midfield.

I remember Paul Scholes being similar, Ferguson tried playing him as a 10 for abit and wasnt nearly as effective as a defender was then marking him.

What if his running around creates the space for McGinn and McTom to score?

A poacher stays in that space, which means the defenders stay in that space, which means there is no space for McGinn and McTom to run into which in turn means less goals for the team.

Ok, fair enough I get that. I wish Adams was a proper finisher. How is that !! 😂

I think we all wish that.

The problem we have and tbh have had for 25 odd years is that we dont have an all round good striker.

Adams is good at running, moving defenders about etc but not good at finishing or holding the ball up. Similar to Miller was back in the day.

Dykes is good at holding ball up, roughing up defenders and good in the air but cant run or move defenders about.

All our other forwards have stengths but also big weaknesses.

In the absence of somebody coming through we need to just continue to have tactics that work with what we have got.
