I think Denis Law won it and Jimmy Johnstone came close. That was a wee while ago though.

Denis Law only Scot to win it, Kenny Dalglish was runner up to Platini in 1983 (with Gordon Strachan in 4th place) and Jimmy Johnstone came 3rd in 1967.... Paul McStay in 1984 was the last time a Scot broke into the top 20

Was the Ballon D'Or as big back then? I'm sure Dalglish won European player of the Year at least once. Which one was the top prize?

Same thing, for some reason some folk have started to pretend that they can speak French. 😂

The Ballon d'Or was previously known as European Footballer of the Year, run by France Football magazine.

In the 90s it was expanded to include non Europeans playing in Europe, then a decade later it became a fully global award.

There were very few years without a Scottish nominee from 1960 to 1990, but nothing until now, which indicates how our standing has fallen, although the expansion outlined above does make it more difficult.

Imagine how more they think of him now after Napoli's form dipped when he was out injured the last 2 weeks

Re the heading for this forum.Apparantely too much.Story in the sports news this morning saying he could be on his way back to the premiership. He is finding all the adulation too much to handle. What with him feeling like that and the story about him losing £375.000 on some property deal that his girlfriends father put together then it maybe explains why his head isn't exactly in the best place too perform on the pitch. As said before on various posts you could see by his manner and performances on the pitch that there was something going on off the park.

I think it's more likely that he had to change positions for De Bruyne especially as it looks like something the Sun might have invented.  If he does want to come back, then apparently they largely get left alone in London.

It must be odd going from under-appreciation to adulation in one season.

At least he was appreciated to a good extent by Scotland.

Can't believe it's true especially after the weekend performance

It would be extremely disappointing that another Scottish player cannot settle abroad because of ;

Culture

Girlfriend/Wife

Etc

Doesn't scream World Class does it ?

It sounds to me like a made up newspaper story; people love him too much in Italy so he wants to come back and play for some EPL side in some shitehole part of England whose oafish fans won't appreciate him!

I can fully appreciate him been scunnered at losing £375k though - that would get to anyone, even a millionaire.

His missus is constantly posting stuff on insta from Capri etc, she certainly isn't struggling to settle.

I call the story as being bullshit.

Could well be made up but i'm quite sure she is having the time of her life .McTominay might feel a bit different though as he is the one in the spotlight.Who Knows?

He's 29 next month and contracted til 2028. He'll be looking to sign an improved deal as this is his last chance of a decent contract. If he is on 60-80k he is probably underpaid given his contribution so far. Napoli are in a strong position. We saw it with mcginn linked elsewhere when he was looking for a new deal at the start of the season.

He certainly doesn't to not be enjoying it from social media etc but you never know.

I'm still calling BS.

Why would he want to leave Naples to return to some shit place in England. Do you want to move to Newcastle Scott, nah no thanks.

I don’t think you can believe anything that the Sun says.
