See other thread about 'Saving Energy Tips for Winter'. Buy a thermos flask and save £80 a month! Just under £1000 a year.

I'm not overly fussed about savings as such. Just think it's mad spending a 5r on a coffee every morn when you could just make one when you get to work.

I deliver to cafes so never short of a tea or coffee but I still have a flask I take out in winter mornings to start me off.

I always associate tea drinking with bowler hats, sticky out pinkies and the British empire.

A gritter driver shouted prick at me during the beast from the east, perfect for cycling no fannies in cars on the road 👍

😂

Regarding bowler hat association, when I started work at 16 I had just been put on my cashiers course and was a teller in Glasgow. In those days you could only get money out using a cheque book and cheque card , and a guy comes up to my till with his arm in a stookie and a cheque book and card. The signature on the cheque looked nothing like the card, he said he fallen off scaffolding.
I looked at the name on the card and it was Mr Clyde Ashby. That name in my mind conjured up a posh guy in a bowler hat, a bit like Mr Benn. This guy didnt look like Mr Benn at all.

I cashed the cheque despite my gut saying otherwise, I was only 16 and quite naive . Three days later the manager calls me in. Yip, I had been done.
Moral of the story, always trust your gut.

When you're out on the bike you can't get any wetter than wet. Which brings me to something that annoys the feck out of me, by law I've got to have a bell on my bike to warn people I'm there.

Every fecker be it parents with weans, dug walkers, runners are all plugged into their phones or have their noses buried in said phones and are oblivious to their surroundings.

You end up behind them screaming at them to get passed and get looked at like shite on their shoes for daring to interrupt them😡

When I am jogging on the cycle path most cyclists have bells but there are some that dont and whizz by you which I find quite scary. I dont wear headphones for the very reason i want to hear my surroundings, particularly as the path can be very quiet at times and I am on my own.
But I know what you mean about people always expecting you to be the one to move out the way. I find that really annoying in general. On Argyle st I feel I am always making way for folk , it really pisses me off when it is 3 or 4 people walking together towards you and they expect you to wander onto the road to let them by.

Particularly during Covid lockdown and you were out for a walk and trying to keep your distance. 'Why is it always me giving way and stepping off the pavement?' 😠

Did the "Indy Ref 2" thread get nuked by the mods ?

Must have. I was just responding to thplinth and got ‘ we cannot find this conversation’ or something like that.
For the record @thplinth, no, I do not socialise with aaid. I have no idea who aaid is in the way I have no idea who you are.
I have met 5 people on this board , none of them aaid.

I was literally posting:

"I wonder if the mods have an opinion. There are rules, after all.

It must be easier for the mods to moderate, or mediate, than individual posters."

And I got the same response - cannot find the topic/ no such topic.

If it finally gets rid of the toxic poster that is thplinth, then it's worth it.

Big Ramy got 21 days, and he at least has a sense of humour and a little bit of humility about himself.

thplinth wouldn't know a ball if skelped him in the face, he's always looking to hit the man with personal abuse.

Thplinth was (going back six or seven years ago mind you) once quite an amusing if somewhat eccentric poster.

Then he somehow got brainwashed by that alt-right bullshit and you know what happened after that.

I just came on here to ask the very same thing! 😄

I have something to rant about but it's politics related and ideal for that thread - but now it's not there. 🙄

I think the mods are fairly tolerant on here and its better if there is little involvement.

Personally though  i think that conversation went over the top, although It wiznae me that reported it,  my ‘moralistic interventions ‘ have a boundary especially on world kindness day ! 😁

Christmas. People already beginning to put trees up. What is the matter with them? It's not even December.  It's not even Advent.

Yeah seen a few thing popping up near us. Ridiculous

I said start of December to the Mrs but it'll probs be later as I need to get the tree etc from the basement and don't know if I can manage that with my knee. And I know it was flooded last week so that'll be fun too 🙈

Fucking wild. It just moves from consumer thing to another.

I was watching something and someone made a good point I felt. They were saying how capitlalism used to expand by territory , imperailism to create new markets. Now it's expanding into your attention/consciousness. More and more ads on everything. No breaks in the cycle, Halloween done, onto christmas. Just leeching onto more and more.

And let's not forget so-called Black Friday. Meaningless hype.

The whole point of Black Friday being sales after the Thanksgiving holiday which we don't celebrate here!  Consumerist nonsense.  Like having the Boxing days sales in Afghanistan.

Black Friday in this country used to be the Friday before Christmas, when the pubs were stowed with folk. Now it refers to some Americanised, consumerist pish which doesn't make sense over here.

It still is in the hospitality industry
