Mostly down to fact Armenia played over 75 mins with 10 men.

Absolutely there were times when a lack of finesse cost us a better scoreline, but for me the biggest reason was that there was far too much “patient” build up play against a team as poor as that. Too much “waiting for an opening” when we should have just been going at them creating our own openings.
Was very frustrated second half when we consistently got to the final third and passed it backwards again.

While these are valid points I had a look at the stats there and we still had 27 shots to score just twice. In Norway's 9-0 win they had 26 shots!

It’s nice to see us winning & comfortably too. It’s also nice to see some good performances like Ralston, McGinn & tbe guys at the back.

Armenia were very poor. They are ranked 92nd in the world and recently lost to Norway 9-0. Norway would be around our level or thereabouts so beating them 2-0 at home and controlling the game whilst good isn’t really anything that shouldn’t be very much the least we expect.

For negatives I think Adams is pretty wasteful at times, the centre backs and centre mids move the ball too slowly & whilst he put a good ball in for Ralstons goal, Armstrong is a waste of a player. For me Gilmour should play and McGinn should play in the advanced Armstrong role. The centre backs need to shift the ball a lot quicker, particularly Hendry.

On the positive aspects we bounced back well from Ukraine. We look dangerous at set pieces & our squad depth is getting better all the time. Patterson will remain our first choice RWB but Ralston is a very able deputy. A win is a win too so we shouldn’t forget that.

Ireland in Dublin will be a lot harder and I think we will do well to get the 3 points there, if we do we set ourselves up nicely for Armenia away in Yerevan and hopefully making it 3 wins from 3

Far to many players running on empty over the last two games, and while it showed more against Ukraine, Armenia were bad and 2-0 probably flatters them when you look at the stats from the game.

When Clarke made two clusters of subs in the second half, both where 10-15 minutes to late... Stewart and Brown should have been on at least 10 minutes earlier, not with minutes to go when both teams were just winding down the clock.

Hopefully a win in Dublin on Saturday and effectively set up a winner takes all two legged final against Ukraine in September to see who wins the group.

Enjoyed the game and happily surprised at the large attendance. Took kids with me as usual guys pulled out (glory hunters 😄). My Mrs says I'll pick yous up. Ok I'll phone you after game we'll walk a good bit to make it an easier pick up. Simple. Made the call, Oh l just came in early I'm in Asda car park. It took an hour and a half to get out that f**kin car park. And to top it off I'd missed the Off Sales cut off in Asda by 3 bastard minutes!!!

Midnight we got home to Motherwell. I really do  have the greatest respect for you guys from out with the central belt that come to Hampden for midweek games.

It is no surprise though. We do not have an Alfe Inge Haaland - far from it. I would not read too much into a freak 9-0 score which is an exception rather than the norm for Armenia.

They were always going to pack their defence so you will always find it hard to pass through that hence our goals were from crosses when we had pushed them back deep. I was watching Adams and he was making runs but nobody tried the pass and he was showing signs of frustration several times.

The main thing was the win and we got it. True Armenia are no great shakes but they are a step up from the San Marinos and Gibraltar's of this world. We won even  with such a changed side which is good and shows we have options.

It was a nightmare trying to drive away from Hampden.  Left stadium at full time whistle and took me about 90 mins to get from Kings Park area onto the M74.

Was waiting in the massive queue of traffic and the team bus drove by with a police escort.

Usually get the train but hats off to the guys who drive to games regularly.

I think we should judge this game after we have played all our 3 games this month.

7points is minimum I expect, 9 would be a tremendous week.however 5 could be the outcome 🤔

However I feel that goal difference could come into it by September,if we and Ukraine trade home wins( hopefully)

They will win by more than 2 at home methinx.

You’ve always got a good take on it Diamond Scot and I like reading your views.

To put a counter perspective on the back 3, I’d say they were awful against Ukraine. Hanley and Cooper are getting to the age where they’re unlikely to improve. I think there’s a good argument they should he next in line to be phased out.

Are McKenna and Souttar better? Definitely can’t tell from the game v Armenia but at least they have the potential to improve. From what I’ve seen over a number of games I don’t think they’re a significant downgrade if at all.

Our defence did have lots of time on the ball last night. That was the big issue against Ukraine. The defence had no time and panicked and launched the ball giving it straight back to Ukraine. And generally being cut apart by Ukraine’s quick passing!

For me I’d like to try McKenna and Souttar ahead in the pecking order and build up some understanding and experience together. Hopefully Tierney is back soon to complete the back 3. If they play a lot of games together hopefully we can make ourselves difficult to beat unlike vs Ukraine.

I dont disagree but like most things it about finding the right balance.

Cooper was really poor against Ukraine and I dont think he is particuarly comfortable on the ball so I wouldnt play him LCB again. If he is to be considered it would be in the CB role. Id be more than happy for McKenna to get a run at LCB if Tierney isnt available.

Hanley I think was ok against Ukraine and actually has been really good the last few years. There was a time when he was a bombscare for Scotland but he has been solid for a while now and imo deserves to keep his place.

I cant think of an appropriate word but my big fear about McKenna is that he isnt "smart" enough to be a top defender. By that I mean that he has a tendency to get too tight, hands on etc. Good players will "win" multiple fouls from him every game even though he isnt actually fouling them. In the EPL he will need to learn that very quickly or he will be a liability.

If you are able to, the best option is to park a bit further from the ground and walk 20 - 30 minutes.

I usually park around Pollokshields, plenty of spaces so you're not wasting ages hunting for a spot, and although it takes a bit to get back to the car there's not much traffic to hold you up after the game either.

Please don't all follow this advice though 😁

Cheers for that advice. Was going to come off Polmadie Road, along Calder Street and park in Crosshill/Govanhill area but wasn't sure of best way to get back onto M74 to drive back to Ayrshire - as not driven to Hampden before.

Pollokshields area is ideal for getting back to Ayrshire as you just need to nip up to the Sheilds Road junction and you're straight onto the M77.

I usually park out towards the Shed, last night I walked back to my car (via a stop in Church on the Hill to have a chat with a mate about the game and catch the highlights) and still made it onto the M8 faster than another mate who go stuck in the traffic lights just along from The Ivory Hotel as he parked closer to Hampden.

One more thing I'd say.

Hampden was electric. 38,000 just reading the attendance.

The fans were there in numbers. The feel good factor was there. These are Scotland fans that are not giving up. The dark old days are long gone. Everyone is united behind this team.

I thought that a change of management was a good idea. I take it all back. I'm fully behind Steve Clarke.

I'm bigging Ralston up because of his attitude. The guy is everything we need in the Scotland team. He can cross a ball. And he can cross on parity with Robertson on the left.

He'll put his head to anything. He'll never shy away from a tackle.

He starts against Ireland. And again in Armenia. He is the first name on the team sheet for me. On yourself Tony. Thank you.

Yeah timings of the subs were weird and the last ones seemed a bit pointless.

Only thing can think of was he was leaving Adams on to try and get a goal as he seems a confidence type player but equally would have expected him wrapped in cotton wool at 60 minutes.  We've basically got to go with him now vs Ireland until his engine runs out and hope one of the other two are up to it - be a big ask Adams playing majority of all 4 games.

Yep, can only think he held off on Adams just so he can get a goal in the closing stages of the game (was certainly in no rush to make the subs, as they players stood on touchline for ages), Brown and (more so) Stewart should have had at least 20 minutes of action and a chance to show what they can do.

I suspect Patterson is starting in Dublin, as he looked very lively when came on (and Ralston had done nothing to really need to be subbed... so that said to me game time for Patterson with Dublin in mind).... McT came on and looked to be out to make up for Ukraine, as felt like he was trying just a little to hard to impress.

Felt Armstrong got longer than he should have (never been impressed with Armstrong when he starts, to me he is the guy you bring on with 10-15 minutes left in a game).

I must say I thought Armstrong had a good game yesterday. Lovely ball to the back stick for Ralston's goal and wasn't scared to take on players and get to the bye-line and hit a cross in. Offered more in midfield than McGregor I thought.

He had some spells, but other than putting himself about, felt he offered very little and just seemed to fade out the longer the game went (as said, to me he has always been the guy you bring on in the second half, not necessarily starting games)

Maybe it could have been partly it isn't really Brown's type of game - he likes running in behind and his first touch isn't the best so needs a bit of room to get going.  Hoepfully he gets a chance against ROI as reckon that would be right up his street as much more like a Championship ding dong battle hopefully.

That was actually something discussed in the pub last night that in Dublin it may be that Gordon might be the only domestic based players in the team, and he may go all out with the English based players against Ireland to go like-for-like.

One thing for sure is the Ireland game will not be a goal fest. I certainly think 0-0 is the favoured score and if we can score we will win 1-0 I reckon. Ireland are similar to us in that they are not blessed with an out-and-out goalscorer and I'd say they are even more worse off in that department than us. They'll look to keep it tight at the back and their defence isn't too shabby so breaking them down could prove tough.

We could easily have scored 6 or 7 last night, if our finishing was as good as Norways.
