Thats where I wanted to see him tried tonight. Beside McGinn as one of the 2 behind Adams who i think is the clear choice for number 1 striker.

People clearly watch a different game to me if they think Scott McTominay should be playing off the striker

Well yes. He got into very good places far up the pitch with really good runs then - nothing. He either lost the ball or tripped over it. If he had threaded a pass to an attacker or kept the attack going then I would be saying get him further up the park but he didn't.

McTominay might be a lot of things but an attacking midfielder he isn't. We've already got players who play in that position regularly and do so well, there's nae sense in trying to play him in another position he isn't best suited to.

That said, I felt out of the back three last night Hanley had the poorest gams, and he was the only specialist central defender!

As a 50 something who's been watching Scotland teams for a lot of years, the one think that strikes me in general terms is from 1-11 ( in old money) this generation of players seem a lot more comfortable on the ball than previous generations...

Anyone else share this perception,  or am I just an auld git talking rubbish ?

Any videos of that penalty incident? I didn't think it was given against Gordon. I thought it might have been Hanley who was judged to have fouled the guy? Still pretty soft. I would need to see it again though.

I have watched it a couple of times and think its a tough one to judge. Looks like a dive but i can understand ifvthe ref thought it was a pen. He maybe thinks hanleys clipped him. Could of done with VAR last night.

Also the mcginn incident should maybe be a pen, just because a player doesnt go down doesnt mean hes not impeded. We should be rewarding players who try to stay on their feet instead of falling to ground at the slightest touches. Basically hes lost out on a pen because hes too honest to through himself to ground like all the other pathetic footballers these days.

Not sure why Mctominay is singled out by anyone. he slipped, it happens

on the 47th minute the whole defence was caught napping but nobody brought that up

I agree with those saying we have a team playing well, we should fear nobody IMO. This team is maturing and could be one of the best some of us will ever see.

We are definitely more comfortable on the ball and we pass and move well these days. I can remember alot of games over the last twenty years where we could barely string two passes together and players looked like they couldnt control a football. Not saying every game was like that but nowadays I actually enjoy watching us play and we also get results too.

The sfa need to give clarke whatever he wants money wise so we can keep him as long as possible.

Agreed however you to take into account that he has already travelled all the way from defence by that point so alot harder to thread a nice pass.

Personally I think he should play CM alongside Gilmour but equally McGreggor has been really good there recently and has formed a good partnership with Gilmour.

McTomineys strengths are that he has high energy, can press, has a good range of passing and has a decent shot on him. He has played further forward for Man Utd and done well albeit in more of a box to box rather than attacking mid role.

Friendlys are the time to try these kind of things out. If the play off was tomorrow id have him at RCB as I think he brings more to the team that Hendry or Soutter.

Absolutely. I think that for the first time in decades we can put a team on the pitch where every player can control, pass and move into space ready for the next pass. Until now we've only had 2 or 3 players with that level of ability at any one time.

We have also developed a "style of play" for the first time since the Craig Brown era. This makes it much easier for new players coming into the team knowing what is required of them.

I've seen it again now. It is hard to say for sure, but I think Hanley does clip his heels, but the guy is already on the way down before that happens. It's easy to see how the ref fell for it.

You might be right but the style of play is far better to watch now than under Brown (I think our players now are better so this helps)
