And just to add I read an article (yesterday I think it was) with Chelsea fans lamenting the fact they let him go.

Is Billy no on loan to Norwich? Silly question, but I will ask anyway. Can a team, say Chelsea, demand Billy back because he is only in a loan?, or would they have to wait to the transfer window...Cheers..

As I understand it they can end the loan deal whenever they want.

Celtic did it last year with Scott Robertson when they had that Dubai Covid crisis. I don't know if that was just because it was extenuating circumstances, but it shows it's at least possible.

Also, I'm fairly sure I read that Billy's wee brother had already signed for Chelsea. I could be wrong though.

Always has been an exceptional talent from a very young age.

It’s not just the obvious technical ability that sets him apart but his heart and insatiable attitude to improve. He isn’t like most players mentally, he genuinely believes he’ll be one of the best players in the world and he won’t fail for lack of effort.

im not worried about the current Norwich blip although I didn’t like the move in the first place as he’s too good for them. It is surprising they have left him out last few games although there has been an injury but I think he’s played pretty well in the games I’ve seen him and think he’ll be back in before long. Cream always rises and all that

Exactly.

And the internationals is a great shop window too. There will be many foreign coaches watching Gilmour and licking their lips and the same applies to other young players in our team such as Patterson.

I think there's more to it than that, he can spot the forward pass, if that's not available he can spot the player who can make the forward pass, if that's not available he can carry the ball forward only after these options have been checked does i become a case of just keeping possession.

The ability to do all that in split seconds when you are on your game is something that can't be taught.

So far he does look like he could end up some player.

For sure...
My post wasn't being critical of Gilmour.
Just an observation that he does the simple stuff *very* well.

If he makes himself available for the easy pass then team mates have options.  Suddenly we have a chance of holding onto the ball.  Opposition get tired and the gaps start to appear.

After dropping him again, farke apparently saying he’s not in the business of developing other clubs players.

I don’t think that’s true, I think he’s trying to deflect allegations that he’s helping out tuchel without thinking about Norwich.

gilmour will take time to adjust to Norwich’s level v.s Chelsea.

I think he’s spot on here. He was also right to rest him yesterday after two massive games where he ran himself into the ground. We need to a be a wee bit careful with Gilmour. He’s still filling out and shouldn’t be playing every game in a league as 100 miles an hour as the EPL. He can do that when he’s 23.

Pish. 17-18 year olds play every week in the EPL. Gilmour is 20 and hasn’t played enough club football as it is to date.

The last sentence is the problem. His body needs to get used to the demands of consecutive games. Neal Cooper, Eric Black come to mind, and almost Tierney.

He also has a slight frame and it will take time to develop. Not many 17 year olds or indeed 20 year olds with his frame play in the EPL every week. He’ll absolutely get there but chronic injury is a danger if he is over exposed before he has fully filled out.

What 17 and 18 year olds play every week in the EPL?

I've not checked, but I doubt there are many 20 year olds that play literally every week either. Even the ones that are regulars will be rotated.

I don't think we should panic with Gilmour. I'm not defending his manager, but he is right to not play him in every game. I would be concerned if he didn't play again until Moldova though.

More paper talk of Gilmour to Rangers.  Whilst I would prefer him playing for Chelsea, a move to rangers would at least likely have him playing first team football, possibly in Europe.  Be a big asset to Rangers.

Be better if he goes to another EPL team really.

Are you concerned now?

Yes. Though I reckon their manager will be sacked soon.

Rangers may not be better, with Gerrard's reluctance to play youth. But surely even he'd play Gilmour. Surely...

You'd hope so. If Ofobreh recovers we will have about 9 CMs already.

Realistically if Rangers get him on loan, he would be our best CM by a distance. Davis is the only comparable player in terms of passing, vision and control but he doesn't have the legs to play as much this season.

Tbh I'd rather he went abroad in January than come back on loan to Rangers. We have a ton of CMs and Gilmour has already surpassed the SPL and it wouldn't aid his development greatly.

Obvious I would have thought; another manager will likely play Billy. Maybe Farke never wanted him to begin with.

No guarantees, but a new manager means they won't have favourites, or feel loyal to certain individuals. That is the only logical reason I can see why he didn't play Gilmour. So the new guy should choose the best lineup objectively. And I think we all know Gilmour is objectively the best centre mid they have.

Danny Murphy on match of the day says he was not playing because of Matthias normann.

A lot depends who comes in next if it’s a traditional relegation manager who wants battlers , characters etc. comes in he won’t see any game time.
If he could not gametime under farke who certainly was not the above it still may be hard for him.

He has potential to be an excellent player but he is far from the finished article we have him as.
