Vaccine Passports

I know quite a few people who have been double vaxxed and had severe covid symptoms

They would have been more likely to end up in hospital if they didn't already or died if they did. The vaccine reduces the severity that doesn't mean everyone will have mild illness just that it will likely be milder than it would have been so this anecdotal experience isn't really something to base a view of the vaccine on.

We've currently got about 75% of the population vaccinated and it must be least 20% (maybe as high as 30%?) of the population have been infected. There is quite a big overlap between those two groups, but we must be getting close to 85% of the population now having some protection against the virus. At some point we will be getting some data about how effective a combination of vaccination plus infection is at protecting people.

Of course that's just the UK and folk are still dying. At the current rate we are running at the equivalent of about 50,000 deaths per year. Hopefully that will start to come down soon but we are heading into winter and we still have the schools in England effect to look out for.

Latest ONS figures for adults with antibodies

The presence of antibodies to COVID-19 suggests that a person previously had the infection or has been vaccinated. In the week beginning 23 August 2021, the percentage of adults that would have tested positive for antibodies is estimated to be:

  • 93.6% in England

  • 91.2% in Wales

  • 91.9% in Northern Ireland

  • 93.3% in Scotland

I'm not basing this as my view on the vaccine I as stated in my post do not want the vaccine for other reasons. However, it is hitting people differently and my experience was different to people who have been double vaxxed which I am fortunate for whereas my concern lies if I was to get the vaccine and had an allergic reaction to it.

I know you have other reasons. I was simply pointing out that this shouldn't form any part of it.

Tony Bliar has called for vaccine passports, so that's me dead against them now.

I am not convinced either and this nonsense of not PCR testing when returning from other countries because you have been double vaccinated is a pile of nonsense. They would be better focussing on ventilation and I still think that they should have some element of social distancing over the winter.

What festivals? They weren't bothering to even check at TRNSMT

In England. No one has ever bothered in Scotland because of the Scottish Government's weak messaging. And that is why Scottish businesses are taking a major strop now

I am not getting the vaccine and vaccine passports/certificates will not force me to get one. My decision not to get the vaccine is not based on mistrust from the government (even though I don't trust them thats not my reason). I am allergic to tonnes of stuff also antibiotics. I try not to take any form of medication unless I absolutely have to. I have also had covid fairly recently and fortunately only experienced mild symptoms. I don't want the covid jag the same way I don't feel like the flu jag would benefit me at this point in my life.

I do regularly take lateral flow tests and if I had symptoms I would remain indoors until I knew whether I had it or not. I am not an anti-vaxxer I believe vaccines absolutely have their place but it is my decision whether I get it or not. I know quite a few people who have been double vaxxed and had severe covid symptoms whilst me and a couple of my family members who have not had it were lucky to have mild symptoms.

Never (at least that I can remember) have we had to prove our medical status and where does that stop, how much medical information should you be asked to provide about yourself before you can go to a club/gig/theatre. This vaccine appears to have given people the right to make an opinion about you just because of a decision you have made about your own body without knowing the full reasons why.

I can understand your concern if you are allergic to a lot of things, that must be a worry for you, and you are clearly being as careful as you can .  I am sure there are lots of people out there with similar good reasons for not getting vaccinated. Women that are pregnant for example may be concerned that their unborn child is harmed. Its one thing making a decision about your own health and body but to make the decision when carrying a child must be hard,  I can understand why people could have doubts at the speed of the vaccine and potential unknown long term implications.
As I mentioned in another post, I can see now why the passports can be discriminatory.

I think its a little bit alarmist though to say ‘ where does it stop’. Covid has created restrictions that the modern world has never known before , I dont think for one minute people will be forced to show medical information for getting into gigs etc once we have reached a level where we can operate normal again. If we do I am pretty sure any government implementing these rules would be given the punt , as most folk don’t want that level of control in their lives.

What festivals needed proof of vaccine in England?

Were some gigs that needed negative lateral test (box ticking) but if it was anything like Wembley it was a waste of time.

I'm going to a big event in London on Saturday, no vaccine passports required

I didn't pay attention to the names but saw a number of news pieces interviewing people about it

This has disaster written all over it. If you are going to introduce something controversial it has to be watertight. There will be complaints right, left and centre .

I said this when the initially announced it and folk on here gave me pelters.

Unworkable in it's current form. Half baked advice as per.

I’m off to one next weekend. Should be about 10k people there. Mate who’s sorted the tickets got an email last week saying you need to have vaccine or lateral flow proof. No skin off my nose as I’ve already got my vaccine status on my phone.
