Watching Austria was a bit like watching Scotland, lots of chances but couldn't put them away

Gordon save fantastic, saved us at least 2 points I think

Good reactions but was a bit lucky pushing it back into six yard box instead of wide. Luckily it hit J. Mcginn and was just about cleared.

Frustrating how many free headers from crosses/corners are given away. Got punished for it in Belgrade, first Czech goal, third Croatia goal and that chance was a free header so zonal marking from set pieces isn't that great.

Aswell as a good CF this side also lacks a really dominant CB in the air. Still either side of that were some outstanding performances. Not the biggest McGregor fan but he was excellent first half.

Think if McTominay is fit for next month would make sense to park him back in the back 3 (Hanley out for the Israel game suspended).

Shades of Belgrade there.

Always nice to see a Scotland team reasonably composed on the ball as dosen't happen too often v decent opposition.

Thought midfield trio were brilliant, O'Donnell put an amazing shift down the right (very unlucky not to score) and Clarke going with Adams and Dykes was exactly the right call.

Both teams looked done from 75 minutes and that's obviously due to cramming three games into such a short time so early in the season. Also think Austria not having Karazdics or whatever he's called was big as he caused big issues at Hampden with how strong he was in the air, Aranutovic could barely run tonight.

Huge 3 points. Austria will probably sack their manager after this looking at him at the end and roll the dice but hard to see them getting 4 wins, anything less won't be enough.

All on the Israel game but things suddenly aren't looking so bad are they.....

Yes, I was thinking surely Belgrade cannot happen again. So why does feel more like a defeat than the great win it was? Because once again we fail to score from open play. No Hanley for Israel; best like-for-like replacement probably Gallagher.

It wasn’t “just about” cleared, it was cleared! And it didn’t “hit” McGinn, it was very well hooked away by McGinn.

A greatly encouraging performance from us and fantastic to upset the odds in an away game when the chips are down.

Defence were great, McGregor fantastic and best I’ve seen from Adams. A great effort from all of them.

Special mention to Stephen O’Donnell sticking to his task up and down that line all night against a quality player in Alaba. Poor final ball at times in the first half but the guy didn’t let us down at all.

I sort of agree, but we can't play him as a middle CB. Cooper is the better choice there. Playing McTominay would mean dropping Hendry.

There were times tonight (and in other games, especially Denmark) where we struggle to play out, keep possession, and end up punting it to the strikers.

We've already seen that McTominay in wide CB role is excellent at getting us up the park through good passes. I think he'd do well with getting the ball to Gilmour and McGregor who'll get our attacking players into the game

This is what we needed. A great overall team performance and great running off the ball playing with a lot more conviction. Good attacking performance from Adams which led to the penalty and good to see Dykes in the scoresheet again. That's got to give us confidence and momentum going into the Israel game.

That could turn out to one of our best ever away results.

Aye, Zagreb 2013 counted for nothing in the end, so you should touch wood, ahem.

Still buzzin' after watching that.   Nerves jangling, yet folk on Sportsound afterwards seemed so assured.    Do they not watch Scotland??? 😆

We should be favourites for 2nd place now. We've still got Moldova and  Faroes away though.

We’ve got an easier run in than Israel at least in the fact that we have already been away to both our main rivals for second place. I’m sure Austria have still to go to Denmark as well.

The Israel game is massive. If we can win that I’ll be pretty surprised if we don’t take second place.

Not going overboard. It was a good solid performance, we stil missed a few good chances.

Would you rather we weren’t creating the chances? I’d rather miss a couple of chances and win 0-1 than create hee haw and draw 0-0 or lose.

If we keep creating chances the goals will come.
