dandydunn
The options he has and decides as a centre half to shoot from that distant makes him negligent in that defeat. Discuss
mccaughey85
Thought Marshall was more at fault tbh, it was a brilliant finish by schick as well.
weekevie04
Get over yourself. He's scored from there-ish last week, he hit the bar today, can see why he fancied another shot. No one expected the boy to score from there. Edited June 14, 2021 by weekevie04
Taylor1996
I would put more of the blame onto Marshall.

Blantyre_Braveheart
Poor decision to shoot but that goal was Marshall's fault. He was 35+ yards from his goal

Caledonian Craig
Hendry is a footballer no Nostradamus. We were on the front foot on the attack and he fancied a shot. It was blocked and the ricochet fell to an unmarked Schick who saw Marshall AWOL and hit a superb goal. End of. If you want to blame someone then it really has to be Marshall. What was he doing 40-yards off his line?
dandydunn
Marshall was doing what modern goalies do. When you’re chasing a game with 38 minutes to go, pop shots with the near post covered and two defenders in front of you is not the way to go. Utterly selfish and ultimately costly. ParisInAKilt
Hendry should have passed and Marshall should have been closer to his line but what can you do, it was a cracking finish

weekevie04
It was a brilliant goal. Feel for Marshall, but FFS, keepers should not be getting caught out like that.
Return of Yermaw
blame game. Culprits must be sought out and stigmatised. No grey areas - we need a villain otherwise it just becomes too complicated to process. Edited June 14, 2021 by Return of Yermaw
KirkieRobRoy
Hendry nearly scored shortly before, has a good shot, was probably being screamed at by the crowd to shoot and couldn't have known what unlucky deflection it would take. Marshall, by contrast, had no reason to be so far out of his goal that we was nearly in Lesser Hampden, and gave himself no chance. Great finish, though. Archiesdad
Steve Clarke picked the wrong starting line up. The players we have are the best available No width or pace today Marshall beaten by a superb strike,. That shot could have gone anywhere really. daviebee
Brilliant strike from the guy but Marshall's fault 100%. Fkin ridiculous being all the way out there. He did brilliantly getting us to the tournament but that was one major fkin clanger.

He cost us any chance of getting back into that game with his selfishness, it’s a team game, not a one man one.
gkm_vancouver
One thing to think about - if Marshall had been on or nearer his line then Schick would not have shot but would have run on an attack against a centre half (Hanley, who played well but could he have kept pace with him) and Hendry nowhere. At best it would have been two on two but more likely would have been straight on Marshall as a one to one and with his quality, likely scored. Marshall made several other first class saves which kept it being a cricket score. Hendry had plenty of options and it is these critical decisions at the highest level which can turn games. robbo cop
So what modern day goalkeepers stand that far up the pitch? To blame a young player is not right and I am sure they will both learn from this.

However wrong decisions like that are made loads of times during a game. If Marshall is on his 18 yard line like he should be then that mistake leads to nothing. We had to players back and they had 2 up front. They would have had to have travelled half the pitch and then beat the GK. A player should be free to make choices in the attacking 3rd, safe in the knowledge that his GK isnt in no mans land. Marshall has never been a top keeper. He made a penalty save in each shootout. Since then he has cost goals against Isreal, Austria and now Czech.

When he had scored for us the other night and hit the bar a minute or two earlier then he was entitled to have a crack. Tell me do you think he had eyes in the back of his head? Do you think he is Nostradamus where he gets a flash of what will happen if his shot was blocked. That was just a freakish chain of events which is totally down to Marshall being AWOL. I have never seen him so far out of his goal. That cost us. End of.
Caledonian Craig
Anyway when you are running halfway into the opponents half you should not have defensive duties on your mind. You are blatantly ignoring that he scored from outside the box in a friendly the other week and minutes earlier in a similar position he had a shot that hit the bar so who can deny him his right to have another pop?
