Don't care if Gilmour isn't playing club football. He can do the basics better than anyone in our squad. Not to bring England into this, but Gilmour is better than Rice and Wilson.

As for Gauld, he's one of the best performers in the Portugese top league.

Why these two, particularly, aren't the squad is strange.

Just out of interest, who is Wilson?

The selection policy is always based on who you play for as opposed to being In form.

This is why the Celtic crowd and the likes of mctominay are guaranteed a start irrespective of form

You must be the only person not wanting to start McTom, who has been in excellent form.

I’ve said it before, none of the midfielders last night are defensive midfielders, none of them shield the defence well enough. Israel were able to find wee pockets of space in front of our defence with ease. Jack is the stand out in that position, but stick Gilmour in there and you have someone who is not only outstanding at reading the game but who can make things tick in midfield.

Apart from Jack, who is very injury prone, have we got any defensive midfielders? I see McIntyre at Reading fulfils that role and he may well be one for the future but who else have we got what plays or could play that role. It's frequently been said that midfield is our strongest area but most of them are more offensive.

Apart from Gilmour, no one else springs to mind. McLean can do a job in there, but solid as he is, it’s very uninspiring. Unfortunately Jack has chronic injury problems that will flare up now and again. Hopefully he’ll be available for the Euro’s or we’re going to struggle.
