Alibi
You have to be 16 or over to vote (18 for UK elections), so you'll need to wait a bit longer.

You should definitely vote for her party and you should encourage all your like minded friends to do so. Anything that takes list votes of the major Unionist parties and the Lib Dems is a good thing. phart
A great example of how the sheep are herded. 24 hours ago it is put on the news, next day folk are regurgitating it on message boards and how they agree with it. As an aside she should seek a bi-election as she gave up her platform in which her constituents elected her.

As an aside she should seek a bi-election as she gave up her platform in which her constituents elected her. She was a list MSP and so its not possible to have a by-election. Technically, she wasn't elected in the first place. Her route to Holyrood was pretty convoluted. John Lamont, who was a constituency MSP for Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire contested and won the equivalent seat in the 2017 UK GE, he resigned and triggered a Holyrood constituency by-election. Rachel Hamilton, who was a sitting Tory list MSP, contested that and won. Her list place transferred to Michelle Ballantyne, who had been next on the Tory South Scotland list and so she was appointed to Holyrood. That's the standard practice whenever a list MSP resigns, the next person on the original list takes their place. You saw the ridiculous situation when Richard Baker, the Labour list member for NE Scotland resigned four months before the 2016 election and so Lesley Brennan - to use a footballing metaphor - got stripped after sitting on the bench for 4 3/4 years. The list vote is of course for the party, not the individual, however as the lists are published in advance of the election, it is possible to make an educated guess about who might be the beneficiary of your list vote. A number of MSPs have resigned from their parties but sat as Independents, most notably "your guy" Andy Wightman. I'm less concerned by that, joining another party does seem to be against the spirit if not the letter of the electoral process. Still, I suspect she'll be a Reform UK MSP for about the same length of time as Lesley Brennan was a Labour MSP unless the election in May is delayed. phart
Didn't realise that, I was thinking her party selected her as on their list, so seems weird to then just join another party.

She's probably more politically aligned to Farage and his coterie than the rest of the Holyrood Tories, who tend to be of the wetter variety. She's a pretty nasty piece of work. Having resigned the whip, there was obviously no chance of her being a candidate in May. She obviously fancies another run at it but I can't see any chance of success. She's from South Scotland which is one of the areas suffering the sharp end of Brexit, so any residual support for her brand of politics I suspect has dissipated. I'd imagine any pissed-off Tories there would be looking tactically at Labour or more likely the Lib Dems. Still if they take a few thousand votes off the Tories and Labour on the list, the only beneficiaries of that are the SNP or more likely the Greens. McDange
Good news. Anything that splits and thins out the far-right vote is to be welcomed. Although still find it strange that some people choose to vote for political parties that are managed, funded and loyal to another country. Can't think of anywhere else in the world that happens. stirlish
She is a typical Borders Unionist, out of kilter with the rest of the country. The only surprise that she didnt previously jump to Ukip. Horrible woman.

Shaundy
As So Crates understood it. if all can vote and the system allows , then all you need are the majority of the below average intelligence folk to fall for your BS and....... you win . They forced him to off himself for daring to state the obvious and millennia later we endure the same outcomes. gon yersel Davy . Unless you’re no an imbecile, and a Tory hunt just taking advantage of the fact that half of folk are below average intelligent. In which case I would enjoy kicking you in the head. 😎
Shaundy
Edit 29% of the electorate voted Tory last offer to give them this ‘majority’
