Griffiths is done. No way he will be in the euros squad. He's not to anything recently to suggest otherwise.

Aye he should be nowhere near the squad. If we want someone with a great strike from range, with good set pieces then call up Turnbull. It's been 4 years, we can't keep making the excuse of "a fit" Leigh Griffiths is our best striker.

England game aside with his 2 freekicks, Griffiths has actually produced very little for Scotland in all his caps. Turnbull brings that same level of freekicks and brings those big moments people want Griffiths in the squad for.

Still looking good, strange he didn’t get a game at Utd during the suspension of the lower leagues. Hard to say what his position is though, probably the McGinn role if beamed into the senior set up.

Interesting article in the athletic about Dundee United and their academy. They seem to have a lot of promising youngsters coming through at the moment. Hopefully they can continue developing and break through in the next season or 2.

If they do as the article says and want to bring through a team playing a style developed through the academy, then I feel they need to move on from Mellon. His style is too direct and defensive for the vision they want. He's done an alright job but with United's budget and players they should be doing and playing better.

Yes, I’ve detected a few grumbles along those lines.

Don’t know him but lovely footballer. Head and shoulders too good for that level, a long way to go before being a Scotland player but fingers crossed

Only problem with this is Turnbull probably won’t make the squad either.

His international career has been far too stop-start similar to some of his ups and downs at Celtic. There was a spell when he didn’t get a chance early enough by Strachan when he was at the top of his game and did then come in and do well and proved a threat. Goal away to Slovenia should have had us on way to a play off until we shat the bed.

It does look increasingly like his time is over unfortunately. It’s a shame because finishers like him are few and far between.

Griffiths may get a good season next year and that could be great for us, but right now its a gamble, and I would add him into a pool along with Rhodes, Burke and Him as a wild card option, who impresses before the end of the season.  Adams and Dykes are a cert, but other than those to Rhodes is in the best form.  Shankland and Nisbet are spotty in terms of goal scoring, in and out of form and neither are gifted in terms of defensive play, sadly as mad as this sounds McBurnie does seem to perform stronger in terms of defending from the front.

I wish there were more data here for Nisbet and Shankland - https://fbref.com/en/stathead/player_comparison.cgi?request=1&sum=0&comp_type=by_type&dom_lg=1&spec_comps=big_5&player_id1=9f9f2ca7&player_id2=63b1a176&player_id3=78b8ac63

The Sun reporting that Tierney is out for the season most likely.

Fingers crossed he can make it for Euros.

Not looking good. Even if he makes the Euros squad he won’t have played for 2 months and would only have the friendlies against Netherlands and Luxembourg to get somewhere near match fit.

Just watched the Arteta interview on the Sun website. This is just a typical sensationalist headline from a trash tabloid.

Arteta is just being cautious as he should with any injured player & stating the obvious there's no guarantees.

He is out for 4 to 6 weeks, nothings changed..

i also wouldn’t be too concerned with match fitness as he’ll be running much earlier than the 4-6 weeks and he still has his core fitness from a long season. Also a natural athlete.

Patterson has been a naughty boy but he has shown he wants to learn and hopefully make the best of his opportunity. I think Gerrard is good for young players in terms of what is expected on and off the pitch.

It will certainly be interesting to see what Gerrard does with his youngsters now that the "absolute must win title" is complete.

Think it has been said on here that they have a cracking group of under 19s coming through ( Patterson, McPake, Maxwell, Debude  etc). Add in Wright to that and you could see the core Scotland team in a few years.

....If they get the chance.....

Yeah, Dundee Utd are way ahead of the rest of Scottish football, with maybe the exception of Celtic, in terms of youth development. They had a bit of golden generation not too long ago when the likes of Gauld, Armstrong, GMS, Robertson, and Souttar were all breaking through. (Albeit not all from the academy) I can't think of many since then but they tend to come in waves.

apart from patterson those are just rangers youth players, they havent shown anything to suggest they will make it at any kind of decent level let alone be the core scotland team. wright looks alright but hes already 23 and we have a fair few in front of him.

Kai Kennedy could be the best of the lot who’s not on that list.

2 goals and 5 assists in 25 games in the scottish championship is hardly jaw dropping. infact looking through mebude and mcpakes numbers this season and its hard to see any of these guys stepping up to a decent level or international football. if your not playing spl football or higher at the age of 19/20 then its usually an indicator you wont play at a high level at all. obviously there are exceptions. patterson looks like he could make the grade but i think alot of spl right backs would look good playing for rangers in the spl this season.

What was your view on Tierney when he broke through?

I’m going by the games Ive seen and how the players have played, not necessarily on stats.

Assists are only assists if people score them, Kennedy creates a lot of chances he’s very much like Ryan Fraser.

The group Rangers have just now are a very good group of young players.

An example is Robby McCrorie - he let in 6 goals on Saturday so must’ve played pish? Nope, he made a lot of good saves & looks very accomplished with a good presence in goals.
