Team in 2024

Of course things change quickly in football, but here is a combination of our current team and some of the best prospects of 2020 showing how old they’ll be on this day in 2024. It is reassuring that our main players still have some time to go to reach their peak. It looks like we’ll have a strong team in 4 years with the caveat that some of these younger ones might not be as good as hoped, but balanced by the fact that there will be some who appear from nowhere to challenge for a place (and the u17 and 19s are full of great prospects).

McCrorie (26)
Patterson (22)
King (20)
Morrison (21)
Tierney (27)
Robertson (30)
Gilmour (23)
McTominay (27)
McGinn (29)
Dykes (29)
Fraser (30)

That looks a real good team there by the way. Really hope Patterson Morrison and King progress as we desperately need those positions upgraded

Pretty much all of this squad should still be around in 4 years barring considine.

                    Marshall 39

   Mctominay27cooper33tierney27

Odonnell 32.                 Robertson30

            Mcginn 30 Gilmour 23

                    Christie29

            Fraser 30  dykes 29

I would rather not speculate on guys like morrison or King making it big when the chances are they won't. We have top players right now that are mostly below 26 and should be around in 4 years. Keepers tend to be able to play at the top until they are 40 so Marshall should hopefully be around at 39 unless some other keeper comes along who is significantly better and can replace him.

Lets build a team from these guys and add in a couple more exceptional talents who come through over the next few years.

Looks like a very good team.

If players like King and Morrison make it big, it'll be brilliant. Same with the trio of kids at Man City. Add the creative spark of Kennedy and Hepburn, there's a lot to feel positive about.

Also Hickey from Bologna? He might fit in eventually in midfield with Gilmour.

That would be great. I forgot about Hickey.

It's fantastic that we're seeing so many options.

Hope Hornby makes it. He’s certainly looked good for the under 21s.

I think he will. Or at least, I hope. He'll be learning tons in France.

At u21 level, he had a better goalscoring record than McBurnie.

Problem with forwards is that they can look very good against a certain standard of opposition and a defence restricted to under 21's will never be as good as a senior one.

Hopefully he will make a break though in France and we will have found a top class striker.

How is he getting on at Palace?

Getting rave reviews for their under 23s. Some league 1 clubs wanted him on loan but apparently Hodgson refused to sanction a move and so many Palace fans think he’ll make first team squad this season.

Describes himself as a wide player. Sounds more of a winger or a 10 to support a striker rather than a central midfielder. Would be superb if he could get into the Palace squad. Very interesting that Hodgson has kept him around rather than a loan...

Indeed. But Roy is hardly renowned for promoting youth. Cant think of the last one he brought into the first team squad.

Agreed and apparently he’s also not renowned for allowing his youngsters to go out on loan, which frustrates the Palace fans. Banks certainly has ability and although he is playing U23s (at a young age And with and against experienced players - Benteke played yesterday  ) he would probably benefit from a loan if he is not going to get in first team squad.

Jay Fulton and Craig Sibbald were also down there at one point. I suppose it's good that big clubs are looking at our players again, but unfortunately the odds are against them, especially in a marketplace where tens of millions can be spent on a finished article.

Or conversely, maybe we could just admit that sometimes our players aren't good enough and we can't blame anyone for that but ourselves rather than blaming foreign players ?
