Black Lives Matter... in Scotland

Surprised no one has mentioned access to Capital as a major factor in aiding your chances of "success".

The Black population  by and large have no access to institutional capital to start new businesses etc. If you are born white and attend elite schools in developed societies you will have almost unlimited access to capital through the social networks inherent in those schools / colleges.

And then of course there's the whole parenting & financial security thing.

What happened to Black Wall Street and then to their farm land from 1900 for almost a century was a total eye opener.

Mark Renton knew the score....

"One bottle of Valium, which i've already procured from my Mother, who is - in her own domestic and socially acceptable way - also a drug addict".

Does this mean Tommy deserved to die? #tommyslivemattered

I always did feel sorry for the cat

Both are wrong

Seems to me this reaction is the intention of the cartoon.

You could do the same trick with a cartoon of a fascist-nationalist and a civic nationalist, to get the reaction "they're both nationalists... both as bad as each other".

I suppose you could but wouldn’t be true, nor is it true for that cartoon.

On one level, you have two people - seemingly at odds with each other - both stating the same thing.  The inference here is that they are the same,

On another level - and how I read it - you have a juxtaposition, where two people are stating the same fact but the inference is that one person is supporting that position, the other is opposing it..

Its a common device in cartoons, to have a more subtle subtext that subverts the more obvious meaning

Secoriya Williamson, the father of eight-year-old Secoriea Turner, told reporters that his daughter had been killed after at least two people in a crowd of armed people opened fire on a car she was riding in with her mother. Authorities said the mother had attempted to drive through illegally placed barricades in the area when the vehicle came under fire Saturday night.

Bottoms said there have been problems with protesters in the area putting up barriers to close off the street. She said she received a message that the barriers were back up less than an hour before she was informed that the eight-year-old girl had died.

"They say Black Lives Matter. You killed your own," Williamson said. "They killed my baby because she crossed a barrier and made a U-turn? You killed a child. She didn't do nothing to nobody. Black Lives Matter? You killing your own. You killed an eight-year-old child. She ain't did nothing to no one of y'all. She just wanted to get home to see her cousin. That's all she wanted to do."

What was this all about again?

Mental fortunately the guy is in custody, looks like he is going to be charged with several felonies. The wean seems to have no physical injuries. The boy saying it is similiar to nursing home videos is probably right, those type of videos are disturbing as fuck as well.

Ohio in the US is where it happened it seems, my mate used to live there.

It took me a while looking at that, to see it.

People doing these kind of things are utter vermin, worse than animals, and deserve everything thats coming to them. The fact that two adults think thats OK is shocking.

It's just childish behaviour from the republican, when your argument isn't strong you lash out with swearing. America has two huge partisan sides who overreact to everything.

I'd not get too worried with minor American political spats. Absolute zoomers in both parties especially in the House of Representatives.

Just to be clear - do you think it's acceptable to call a woman a "fucking bitch"?

To call any woman a fucking bitch is derogatory and for it to be used by a politician beggars belief.

However, generally,  as insults go it is pretty tame,  and I would take a guess that it is used as often by  women as men, to insult other women . Ironically used by rather ‘bitchy’ women.

I used to think it was just America, but the UK is slowly getting there. Maybe not as bad, but over the last 5 years, the acceleration away from being a European nation to being the 51st state has increased IMO.

Yes, maybe & no.

It would be quite wrong of me to criticise it, Ive certainly called Maggie Thatcher, Ruth Davidson & Jo Swinson far worse on here. That was because I think they are utter cunts, their sex has nothing to do with it. Ive also called Alex Neil, Willie Rennie and Nicol Stephen insulting names and derogatory terms, again, its because they are cunts and nothing to with their sex.

What we have is a football crowd mentality, but in normal public life. People throwing insults and shouting abuse, but if someone speaks back, the arms go up in indignation and people act as poor little victims.

Is calling a woman a bitch insulting, of course it is, thats the point. If youre offended by it, but happy to call men bastards, or laugh any other insulting language, then you need to wise up. This isnt aimed at anyone, just a general opinion. Its like going to see Frankie Boyle or Jimmy Carr and laughing at 99 insulting comments, then getting upset because one of them is too close to home.

AOC isnt eligible to run, she is too young.

She would also get absolutely humiliated if she was able to run right now. A hispanic left wing female, she wouldn't have a hope in the current Yank times..

Calling a woman a bitch or a cow isn't comparable in the slightest to calling a man - or a woman - a bastard as that's a generic insult that can be applied across all genders, races, creeds or colours.  In Scotland, cunt probably falls into the same category although we're probably unique in that respect.

iIf you want a more accurate comparison, then it would be the N or P words, or any form of homophobic insult.
