Fair point. Forgot all about Denis Law. :ok:

Choose the three forwards because their records were good.

I think it's supposed to be a myth that Law relegated Man United. By the time he scored they were already going down regardless.

Derby County, maybe a bit weak at full-back and goalkeeper but this would be one hell of a team...

Jake Findlay

Ikechi Anya   Kenny Burns   Dave Mackay   Christian Dailly

Bruce Rioch   Don Masson   Archie Gemmill

Billy Steel   Hughie Gallacher   John Robertson

Subs: Russell Anderson, Gary Caldwell, John McGovern, Craig Burley, John O'Hare, Kenny Miller

Some central defence.  Doubt if any forward would go near it!

If he was better than Hartley and Gow then I stand corrected.

Fitzpatrick was voted St Mirrens greatest ever player ( cue the jokes ), and is our current CEO.

Left Saints to join BC for a couple of seasons 79-81 when you were in the top division and one of those seasons he won your POTY before returning to Paisley.

Ironically when Saints became the only team to win the Anglo Scottish Cup, it was Bristol City we beat and Fitzy played against us.

Seeing Russell Anderson, I was curious how old he was these days and learned he has a 20 year old son who is on the books at Burton Albion.

Gotta feel sorry for John McGovern, still cant get a cap.

Always thought Don Masson was overrated even before that missed penalty.

Yeah but they were already relegated before that game apparently.

I don't think they were relegated before the game, but other results on the day meant that Utd were going down regardless. It's likely Law didn't know that at the time he scored though. There was still one game left of the season left after the derby match, so if results had gone their way, they'd have still been in it going into the last game.

Pretty sure that's correct. Man U needed to win their last two games to have a chance of staying up. But they also needed other results to go their way. When Denis scored, Man U still had a chance of staying up. But Man U would have had to come back to win that game and they also needed Norwich to come back and beat Birmingham. Birmingham actually beat Norwich and made it all academic in the end, but Denis wouldn't have known that at the time he scored.

Correct. Funnily enough I happened to see a great documentary on Man Utd a few after my last post in which this was also mentioned.
