I'But you're right, how can we possibly adhere to what the government says when they've done the complete opposite.

I will have no difficulty if I know the rules are protecting myself and others. Yes it matters what the rule setters do but as I have said I don't abide by the rules for them.

I'm in a situation where going to a club in the next few weeks seems mental to me. I appreciate that I have a different set of circumstances to a lot of folk though.

I would support closing clubs,  limiting opening hours for pubs and promoting outdoor areas. The cost/benefit makes sense to me. But I've never liked clubs anyway....so would favour closing then with or without covid 😀

I know it's not ideal for the businesses (and we should support them) or younger people trying to have fun.

Hopefully pubs are well adapted that they can get decent amount outdoors also.

Not much fun sitting outside a pub at -5 in January tbf.

Has there ever been any proof that limiting opening times reduces cases? That for me just seemed like made up rule to make them look like they were doing soemthing.

I just don't get this attitude to be honest. Any measures are not in place to please Boris Johnson they are to protect the rest of us. Not abiding by the rules is actually sticking two fingers up at the likes of me (granted I am sure that would please some of you!) who have made huge sacrifices for not just myself but to protect others not for the government.

I never said it was my attitude, it will be the attitude of a lot of people.

We've all made huge sacrifices. I'm just starting to question their attitude and motives. As I said earlier, I've done everything they've asked, jagged and boostered, stayed in, never went anywhere, not seen my family since 2 years past August, yet these utter bastards openly flaunt the advice that they give out.

For me personally, it can't continue like this.

I will carry on wearing a mask, social distance and take lat flow tests but I can't blame people for having had enough especially when our elected leaders are contemptuous.

I don't blame people. I know it is hard. As I have said I didn't see my mum for a year before she died. But we do as I have also said need to adapt regardless of any motives it is clear what will happen if we don't. It is clear we won't do that voluntarily though.

The thing  I have never got is if the government rules allow something people think that means it is safe, very few people actually think about what they can do to make things safer personally and maybe chose not do certain things or do them in different ways, when making those small changes that actually have limited negative impact on them could make a significant positive impact on the transmission of the virus.

I agree with that. I was in England after they binned masks, i still wore mine when on packed tubes etc though as it felt weird/unsafe not to.

There is some things i had wished i had fucked off though over the last 20 months and not visiting my dying gran for months was one of them. In hindsight, she would have preferred seeing her grandchildren in her last few weeks. i thankfully just broke the rules near the end but i hate myself for not doing it earlier.

Ironically i was staying away from my gran in her last weeks when these utter cretins were having parties laughing at us mugs. I'm sure i'll not be the only one who will be seeing close friends and family as i usually would (prior to 2020) regardless of what the "rules" are over Christmas.

Folk can act how they want just like Boris Johnson would do ;)

It's relatively easy for me to "shield" myself somewhat so no great sacrifice. It's impossible for others in certain jobs etc.

Boris Johnson has just given folk a reason or a justification for potentially ignoring any restrictions.

The numbers are all speculative atm but could be crazy amount of infections. We could see what the original one would have looked like without the sharp lockdown. Or it could all be an over-reaction.

This thread is approaching its two year birthday. Been a long two years, especially the last one... fuck me.

Thinking I might retire. Too young but might as well as I wont be able to work, travel, attend public events, socialise, or shop for non essentials That sure cuts down the expenses in retirement as well.  😀 Maybe start an Alex Jones type youtube channel... or become a TV evangelist. Something that is both lucrative and capable of doing online. Quite like the idea of a small holding... get some chickens, pigs, etc maybe have a polytunnel or two for the cultivation of cannabis vegetables.

I completely get this. I said exactly the same about my mum. I didn't have the choice though and I still feel guilty about that. There will be thousands and thousands of us feeling like like that

The majority of the Nordic nations are currently swept by a new COVID wave, and are seeing their all-time daily infection records broken or witnessing near-record figures, despite having some of Europe's highest vaccination rates and rolling out booster shots.

It does seem crazy that the entire country had to sacrifice so much for nearly two years and then right before flu season they have a massive conference involving 26,000 delegates or whatever from all around the world with 400 odd private jets flying in bringing in entourages of people from every country (people who don't feel much need to abide by their own mask and social distancing mandates)...

Anyone looking might think they are fucking stupid and don't have a clue what they are doing.

I don't know, but makes sense to me that it would have a small impact. The longer you spend somewhere socialising then the higher the risk, so limiting opening times should make a difference. I get that some of the younger folk will just immediately head to house parties, but they do that anyway.

I know for me the longer I spend in the pub then the higher the risk of me hugging random strangers or engaging in similar nonsense. So sending me home early is definitely effective! Maybe the rule should just apply to me.

I can't say I'm not concerned about Omicron, but will it stop me socialising over the festive period? Unless hospitality venues are boarded up I'd doubt it.

I've no objection to taking regular tests as a precaution, they are free and easy to do.

It might stop you if you catch it.

😄 Fair point. Three vaccinations in however I'm getting to the stage where it's worth the risk.

We should be at a lower risk of getting severe disease but I'm no following M&m's example by starting to hug random strangers. Fuk that, I might catch something worse than COVID.
